Job Description
Peer Support Specialist (PSS)•Please include a few sentences, as a cover letter, with your resume. We would like to hear in your words why you are interested in our position! Applications will be accepted through May 22nd. Position Overview The HILLS Recovery Center is seeking a compassionate and motivated individual to join our team as a Peer Support Specialist (PSS). A PSS is someone who has achieved personal recovery and is eager to use their lived experience to help others begin or strengthen their own recovery journey. Through shared understanding, respect, mutual empowerment, and practical support, PSSs help individuals engage and stay active in their recovery process while building hope and community connection. This is a full-time position, primarily working afternoons and evenings, as well as during the day on Saturdays to support the expansion of our new drop-in hours. Most evening shifts will include an activity such as a support group, recovery meeting, or community event. You will always work alongside at least one other Peer Support Specialist - you will never be alone at the center. Scheduled work time may vary for the first month to allow for comprehensive onboarding and skill development before transitioning to your regular schedule.
Responsibilities:
Meet regularly with participants to offer one-on-one peer support and recovery coaching. Help participants develop recovery plans, coping methods, and strategies for achieving their goals. Respond to recovery needs in community and partner settings such as hospitals, treatment facilities, jails, and healthcare offices. Organize and co-facilitate support groups, harm reduction groups, and recovery-oriented events or activities. Provide education and distribute harm reduction materials, including Naloxone and other supplies. Conduct non-clinical assessments and screenings and provide feedback and referrals to participants. PerformHIV/HEP C
rapid testing after completing required training. Help deliver educational presentations in community, clinical, and school settings. Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all participant interactions and activities. Attend all required trainings (such as Recovery Coaching, Certified Intentional Peer Support, Motivational Interviewing, ACEs & Resilience, etc.) and regional/statewide conferences. Assist with volunteer engagement, while reporting concerns or incidents to your supervisor. Contribute to keeping The HILLS Recovery Center organized, welcoming, and safe. Participate in regular supervision and team meetings. Perform other duties as needed to support the mission of WMARI and The HILLS Recovery Center.Requirements:
Lived experience with substance use disorder and identify as being in recovery. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation. Recovery Coaching certification and SMART Facilitator Training within 6 months of hire. Excellent interpersonal and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated compassion, professionalism, and ability to work well with others. Proficiency with technology, including MS Word, data entry, social media, and internet navigation. Creative, open-minded, flexible, and detail-oriented. Ability and willingness to work afternoons, evenings, and Saturdays.Preferred Qualifications:
At least one year of experience providing peer support. One or more years of continuous personal recovery. Strong knowledge of recovery resources, including 12-step programs, treatment programs, harm reduction, and community supports.Job Type:
