The Michigan Anti-Cruelty Society is seeking a Foster & Volunteer Coordinator Assistant to support two of our most important programs—our incredible foster families and dedicated volunteers. This role is perfect for someone who is organized, compassionate, adaptable, and thrives in a fast-paced environment where no two days are the same. Responsibilities Assist with recruiting, onboarding, and supporting foster families and volunteers Work closely with the Foster & Volunteer Coordinator as a collaborative team, providing daily support, maintaining open communication, and helping ensure the success and growth of the foster and volunteer programs. Communicate with current and prospective fosters and volunteers through phone, email, and in person Help coordinate foster placements for dogs, cats, puppies, and kittens Schedule volunteer shifts, orientations, and training sessions Maintain accurate records and databases Assist with adoption events, community outreach, and special events Support enrichment and quality-of-life programs for shelter animals Work collaboratively with shelter staff to ensure animals are placed in appropriate foster homes Help troubleshoot concerns and provide guidance to fosters and volunteers throughout their experience Be cross-trained in animal care and shelter operations, including cleaning, feeding, enrichment, and other daily husbandry tasks, and assist these departments as needed to support overall shelter operations. Assist with administrative tasks and other duties as needed
We're Looking For Someone Who Is:
Passionate about animal welfare and our mission Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail A strong communicator who enjoys working with people from all backgrounds Compassionate, patient, and empathetic Able to multitask and prioritize in a busy shelter environment A creative problem solver who can think quickly and independently Reliable, dependable, and accountable Comfortable handling emotionally challenging situations with professionalism Tech-savvy and comfortable using email, databases, and scheduling software Flexible and willing to jump in wherever help is needed A team player with a positive attitude and strong work ethic Preferred Qualifications Experience in animal welfare, rescue, veterinary medicine, customer service, volunteer or foster management, or nonprofit work is preferred Availability to work a flexible schedule, including Sundays, Mondays, holidays. Knowledge of dog and cat behavior is a plus Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Comfortable working with diverse populations and community groups. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and safely handle animals of various sizes Availability to work some evenings, weekends, and special events as needed.

From $15.00 per hour
