Job Description

SUMMARY We are looking for a Volunteer Coordinator who is passionate about bringing people together to serve their neighbors. At The Other Way Ministries, we believe neighbors helping neighbors creates a stronger community. Every day, volunteers walk through our doors ready to share their time, talents, and hearts. This role warmly welcomes them, helps them discover their place in the mission, and ensures their experience is meaningful, organized, and impactful. The Volunteer Coordinator recruits, trains, schedules, and supports volunteers across The Other Way Ministries programs. This person creates a welcoming and organized volunteer experience while building lasting relationships that help people feel connected to the mission.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
include the following: Recruit, onboard, and retain volunteers from diverse backgrounds and age groups. Build strong relationships with current and prospective volunteers. Communicate the mission and impact of The Other Way Ministries in a compelling and welcoming way. Create a volunteer culture where people feel connected, valued, and inspired to return. Develop and manage systems that recruit, track, schedule, and recognize volunteers. Maintain volunteer data using volunteer management software (Bloomerang Volunteer or equivalent). Coordinate volunteer assignments across The Other Way Ministries programs and events. Plan volunteer orientations, training sessions, and appreciation initiatives. Support volunteer engagement for events, special projects, and seasonal programs. Work collaboratively with staff to ensure volunteers are placed where they can make the greatest impact. Assist with event planning and logistics related to volunteer participation. Maintain strong communication with volunteers through email, scheduling tools, and meetings. Ensure volunteer documentation, scheduling, and reporting are accurate and organized. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in volunteer coordination, nonprofit management, or related field.
EXPERIENCE
3+ years work experience coordinating volunteers in a nonprofit or community setting Experience training, onboarding, and leading teams.
GENERAL OFFICE SKILLS
Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and G Suite Applications (Google Docs, Sheets,GMail, etc.) Desktop publishing or comparable software (e.g. Canva) Experience with volunteer management software (Bloomerang Volunteer or similar). Comfort with technology with ability to learn new software
COMMUNICATION SKILLS VERBAL
- Must be able to communicate clearly and professionally with volunteers. WRITTEN - Must be able to communicate clearly and professionally with volunteers through letters, emails, and phone calls.
JOB COMPETENCIES
Thorough understanding and ability to communicate the mission and values of The Other Way Ministries. Understanding of basic life issues in urban, low-income, multicultural settings. Ability to relate to and effectively communicate with people from a wide variety of ages, cultures, backgrounds and situations. Disciplined time management and organizational abilities. Detailed ability to create and maintain systems that support volunteer programs. Ability to inspire, train, motivate, challenge, and supervise volunteers. Energy to support busy seasons with hgiher vounteer activity. Understanding of the Gospel and desire to learn and grow in faith.
