Job Summary The Office of Ombudsman for Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities promotes the highest attainable standards for treatment, competence, efficiency, and justice for persons receiving services for mental illness (MI), developmental disabilities (DD), and substance use disorder (SUD). These include the Departments of Health, Human Services, and Education, and Direct Care and Treatment, services that are licensed, certified, or registered by the Departments of Health or Human Services, local school districts, county social service agencies, recovery residences, and peer recovery support services provided through a recovery community organization. We are seeking to fill up to two positions with this posting. The Intake Team serves as a point of entry/first contact for persons seeking assistance from OMHDD and is responsible for assessing presenting issues; providing information, education and consultation services; performing intake services, investigation and research of presenting issue; analyzing issues and making appropriate referrals to other resources when the issues presented are outside the scope of OMHDD. The Intake Team, led by the Intake Supervisor, exercises extensive independent judgement in interpreting and applying the requirements of OMHDD statute as well as other state and federal statutes. This position is telework eligible. Staff are provided with the tools and equipment to be successful in a virtual work environment. Please note, the telework policy could change with notice based on the business needs. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications Resume must demonstrate the following qualifications: Two years of experience with investigations, regulatory compliance, complaint/quality assurance matters related to persons receiving services for mental illness, developmental disabilities, or substance use disorder. Familiarity with investigative/intake techniques. Communication and critical thinking skills to gather and organize information from callers and visitors, determine their needs and match them with the appropriate resource(s). Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with people from diverse backgrounds. Good human relations skills to provide positive and effective customer service for the public and staff. Knowledge of or the ability to quickly learn OMHDD's services, procedures, rules and regulations. Good problem-solving skills. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor's degree or higher in Social Work, Psychology, Special Education, Nursing, Legal Studies/Law, Human Services, Hospital Administration, Public Health, or closely related field. Experience to identify violations of clients' rights, represent clients in administrative proceedings, appeals hearings, or review boards, and monitoring actions taken to correct violations. Experience providing liaison services and consultation to representatives of law enforcement, social services, agencies, and the courts.
