YOUR DAY TO DAY AS A HCV HOUSING SPECIALIST
As a new HCV Housing Specialist at the Housing Authority of Billings, you'll engage in a variety of tasks designed to support housing assistance programs. Each day, you'll facilitate client intake and eligibility assessments, ensuring applicants meet program requirements. You'll manage case files, maintain accurate records, and assist clients in understanding their housing options and program regulations. Regularly communicating with landlords and community partners will be essential, as you'll help resolve issues and foster positive relationships. Your schedule will be Monday through Friday, from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, providing a structured work environment. Expect to participate in ongoing training and meetings to enhance your knowledge and skills in housing programs. This role demands strong organizational skills, empathy, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team-focused atmosphere, making every day unique and impactful.

To thrive as a Full-Time HCV Housing Specialist with the Housing Authority of Billings, several key skills and competencies are essential. A solid understanding of HUD/HomeFront policies and Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program guidelines will be crucial for navigating the complexities of housing assistance. Effective file management and record-keeping abilities will aid in maintaining accurate case files and ensuring compliance with annual and interim rent review procedures. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, is necessary for efficient data entry and information processing. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills will help you manage multiple tasks effectively, while excellent written and verbal communication skills are vital for interacting with clients and stakeholders. Furthermore, conflict resolution and customer service skills will enable you to handle difficult situations with ease, while critical thinking and problem-solving abilities will empower you to address challenges innovatively. Lastly, the ability to work respectfully with low-income, elderly, or disabled persons is essential, along with the capability to obtain HCV Eligibility and Occupancy certification within one year.
