English /Spanish Job Purpose:
The Family Support Specialist (FSS) is responsible for working in home and community- based settings with families and children of all ages.
Essential Job Duties:
- Provide home
- school
- and/or community-based education and support to assist clients in acquiring parenting and/or life skills with a minimum of 50% of time spent in direct service provision.
- Complete progress notes, assessments, service plans, and discharge summaries in accordance with agency protocol and referral source requirements.
- Facilitate educational and/or support groups as required.
- Participate in team meetings and coordinate with other agencies and service providers (e.g., case managers and foster care specialists) to advocate on behalf of clients.
- Provide referrals and assist with linking families to necessary resources. Assist families in the development of informal support systems.
- Collect statistics and implement quality improvement procedures as defined by program assignment. Other Duties
- Drive to and from appointments.
- Participate in supervision sessions as required.
- Complete training necessary to perform position.
- Show flexibility regarding work schedule (to be determined by supervisor). Evening and weekend work is required.
- Facilitate a team atmosphere by working in partnership with other agency staff.
- Represent the agency and programs in a positive manner to clients, community organizations, and the public in general.
- Plan, organize and execute parenting workshops, car seat education, and other trainings as assigned.
- Other tasks as assigned.
Environment:
Most direct service work occurs in a combination of home- and community-based environments.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to type and perform other office skills.
- Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends.
Qualifications Job Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in social work or related field. Lived experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- A minimum of one year's experience in Human Services preferred.
- Minimum age of 21 years.
- Basic computer skills, including ability to effectively use an electronic client and other databases. Required knowledge of and skills in: oThe child welfare system, oThe needs of neglected, abused, and exploited children and adults, oFamily functioning, and oChild development.
- Ability to work autonomously and make appropriate decisions in crisis situations.
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Vehicle Requirements:
- Own transportation that meets agency vehicle inspection requirements.
- Valid driver's license with no more than 6 points.
- Proof of insurance that meets agency requirements.
