PURPOSE/SUMMARY YWCA
Rochester & Monroe County is on a mission to build a culture of philanthropy that advances our work and deepens our impact in the community. We are seeking an organized, people-oriented, and enthusiastic Volunteer Coordinator to join our Development team. YWCA Rochester & Monroe County is seeking an energetic, relationship-driven Volunteer Coordinator to build and grow a dynamic volunteer program that expands community engagement and supports the organization's mission. This role serves as the primary point of contact for volunteers, community groups, schools, corporations, interns, and service organizations seeking meaningful opportunities to support YWCA programs and events. The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for recruiting, onboarding, training, scheduling, and recognizing volunteers while ensuring a positive and impactful volunteer experience. This position works collaboratively with staff across the organization to identify volunteer needs, develop service opportunities, coordinate community engagement activities, and support key organizational initiatives including resident support services, Adopt-a-Family, the Empowering Women Luncheon, fundraising salons, corporate volunteer projects, and community outreach events. Reporting to the Vice President of Development, the ideal candidate is highly organized, welcoming, entrepreneurial, and comfortable serving as a public ambassador for YWCA. They are skilled at building relationships, managing multiple projects simultaneously, and creating engaging experiences that connect volunteers to the mission and impact of the organization. This role is well-suited for someone eager to grow in the field of development, and will have the latitude to own systems and refine processes to improve efficiency and consistency. The hired candidate will have opportunities to build skills in event execution, volunteer management, community building, and donor relations.
AREAS OF OWNERSHIP
Volunteer Recruitment and Engagement (Primary) Develop, implement, and grow a comprehensive volunteer program that supports organizational and programmatic needs, incorporating policies, procedures, and best practices. Recruit volunteers through community organizations, schools, colleges, corporations, faith communities, civic groups, and volunteer networks, matching volunteers with meaningful opportunities aligned with organizational needs and individual interests. Conduct volunteer interviews, screenings, orientation sessions, and onboarding activities. Coordinate volunteer training, scheduling and placement across programs, events, and service initiatives. Foster positive volunteer relationships through ongoing communication, recognition, stewardship, and retention efforts. Community Partnerships and Corporate Engagement Serve as the primary liaison for corporate volunteer groups, service clubs, educational institutions, and community organizations. Design and coordinate volunteer service projects and days of service that align with YWCA priorities. Build partnerships that expand volunteer capacity and increase community awareness of YWCA programs and services. Represent YWCA at community events, festivals, volunteer fairs, and outreach opportunities throughout Monroe and Ontario Counties. Develop opportunities for community members to engage with and support YWCA's mission through volunteerism. Program Support and Special Initiatives Coordinate the Adopt-a-Family program, including volunteer recruitment, donor participation, gift collection, organization, and distribution logistics. Manage internship and work-study student recruitment, onboarding, placement, and tracking. Collaborate with program staff to identify volunteer-led workshops, educational programming, and enrichment opportunities for residents and participants. Coordinate volunteers and logistical support for fundraising salons and donor engagement events. Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise volunteers supporting the Empowering Women Luncheon and other signature organizational events. 4. Volunteer Systems & Administration Maintain accurate volunteer records, reports, and participation data within Bloomerang Volunteer and other organizational systems, tracking volunteer hours, participation, outcomes, and impact metrics. Produce regular reports on volunteer engagement, retention, recruitment efforts, and program outcomes. Ensure compliance with organizational policies, screening requirements, and risk-management procedures. Assist with the development and continuous improvement of volunteer program policies, procedures, and operational workflows.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Bachelor's degree in a related field (e.g., nonprofit management, communications, marketing, business), or an equivalent combination of an associate's degree and relevant job experience Minimum of two (2) years of experience working in volunteerism, recruitment, or a related role Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally with donors, colleagues, and community partners, build strong relationships, Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines Excellent presentation, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear, professional correspondence and reports Entrepreneurial and welcoming spirit, and the ability to take ownership of processes and continuously improve workflows. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across teams Demonstrated alignment with the mission and values of YWCA, including a commitment to equity, inclusion, and social justice
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position operates in a typical office environment with low to moderate noise levels. This is a full-time position requiring 37.5 hours per week. Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required to support events and organizational needs, and flexibility in scheduling is expected.
