Job Description

Overview The Housing Specialist is a part-time position at Strategies to End Homelessness (STEH). This position is responsible for providing support and assistance to those at risk of experiencing homelessness in their search for housing, as well as ensuring housing quality standards by completing housing inspections and determining units meet rent reasonableness. The Housing Specialist may also support other functions of the Shelter Diversion Program in coordination with the Shelter Diversion Coordinator, as well as other programs as assigned by the Prevention and Stability Director. Core Job Functions Identifies housing in the community that is appropriate for households at-risk of homelessness and interacts with landlords regarding the Shelter Diversion Program. Participates in monthly staff meetings Participates in monthly Shelter Diversion case manager meetings Participates in other STEH functions as necessary Assess housing barriers of participants to determine housing and service needs. Recruits new landlords to work with the Shelter Diversion Program with available units in full geographic area, focusing on accessing housing in under-utilized areas. Creates and maintains resource list of landlords and utilizes Padmission for potential housing placements Apply knowledge of residential lease contracts to educate clients about their rights and responsibilities. Provides support, direction, and guidance to clients in housing search Provides support in communication with landlords Conducts HUD Housing Inspections Assists with Lease and Rental Agreement and obtains signatures Adheres to Fair Market Rent Requirements and ensures units meet rent reasonableness Acts as advocate for client housing issues Assists the Shelter Diversion Coordinator as needed Travel Requirements The person in this position is required to travel locally and will need reliable transportation. $23.55 per hour
