Job Description

Position :
Part-time Assistant Volunteer Coordinator Reports to:
Director of Education Supervises:
All volunteers and interns, including diet prep volunteers, education volunteers, camera club volunteers, and episodic volunteers Coordinates with: Director of Education, Volunteer Manager, Director of Ambassador Animal Engagement, Education Administrator, Education Coordinator, Education Camp Program Coordinator, Education Ambassador Keepers, Zookeepers, Guest Services staff, and other Zoo staff
Summary of Responsibilities:
This individual will work closely with the Zoo's Volunteer Manager to assist with recruitment, training, and deployment of volunteers to fulfill the needs of the Zoo while ensuring all volunteers feel welcomed, supported, and appreciated, particularly on the days when the Volunteer Manager is not working. EPZ Team Member Responsibilities Assist the Zoo in its mission to foster an appreciation of wildlife and their habitats that will inspire active participation in conservation Assist management in ensuring safety, cleanliness, and efficiency in all areas of the operation of the Zoo Be available as per business needs Follow and adhere to all policies and procedures and safety protocols for the department and the Zoo Use proper radio etiquette and adhere to proper uniform attire at all times Specific Duties and Responsibilities Must be able to work an especially flexible schedule as needed for support of volunteers and interns, which must regularly include at least one weekend day a week, sometimes full weekends, and some evenings. Must be available to work most Sundays and Mondays . Demonstrate EPZ's appreciation for volunteers through positive one-on-one relationships & recognition programs for volunteers Supervise and deploy several types of EPZ interns, education volunteers, diet volunteers, special needs volunteers, camera volunteers, one-day volunteers, and occasionally corporate group volunteers Be the daily point-person management for all Zoo volunteers and interns; this including trouble-shooting, coaching, evaluating performances and ensuring that all volunteers and interns are adhering to the Zoo's policies and procedures Communicate fluently with volunteers/interns and staff via both verbal and written forms Respond to and disseminate volunteer/intern schedule changes & callouts in a timely-manner Recruit, onboard, orient, and train new volunteers and interns Create, refine, and update dynamic virtual training and orientations Maintain accurate clearances and volunteer records in the Zoo's volunteer system, "Volgistics" Create and edit daily volunteer and intern schedule Hold daily volunteer and intern morning meetings and radio communications Foster respectful and productive relationships between volunteers/interns and staff/guests Conduct ongoing updates of extensive animal fact cards and fact sheets Develop new and improved volunteer educational engagement Distribute volunteer uniforms and nametags Treat all information entrusted to or known by the candidate regarding the EPZ's guests, animals, employees, and volunteers with confidentiality. This includes information about any incidents that take place at the Zoo or any other sensitive information Treat with confidentiality any incidents that take place at the Zoo or any other sensitive information, ensuring to only discuss said information with the proper management representatives Work Experience At least one year prior volunteer coordination experience preferred Prior experience as a volunteer preferred
Minimum Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Education, Environmental Education, Non-profit Management, Volunteer Management, or other related field Other Requirements Must believe strongly in and value the power of contributions made by volunteers Must have a demonstrated passion for conservation and wildlife education Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, facilitating positive interactions between visitors and Zoo staff Must have demonstrated experience building and sustaining effective and productive relationships with staff, peers, volunteers and sources of influence within an organization Must have demonstrated prior experience requiring the application of independent judgment and discretion Must have excellent leadership skills Must have excellent public speaking skills Must have excellent administrative and organizational skills Must be proficient with Microsoft Word processing programs and Google-based applications Preferred but not required: Proficiency with Volgistics Experience with AZA institutions preferred
Pay and Identification Pay:
$17.00/hourly
