Job Description

Under the supervision of the RCC Coordinator, this position performs peer support services to clients in the women's residential program at Serenity Place. This includes support in the process of integrating into a community recovery program. Overall position objective is to assist clients in early recovery to promote and enhance long-term recovery goals. No supervisory requirements. This position involves activities that require ability to lift 30 lbs., reaching, climbing and grasping. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing surroundings and activities. The worker is not subjected to adverse environmental conditions.
JOB DUTIES
Promote peer support services to include phone support, orientation to 12 step recovery groups, linkage between levels of care, and community agency referrals as needed including primary healthcare providers, vocational services and other available services Develop methods to Increase client retention Promote and help increase alumni participation at Serenity Place Develop and maintain contacts with local and state human services agencies to increase awareness of available services Participate in client staffing within organization and with other community agencies on behalf of client Develop and make presentation(s) to women's residential clients to discuss benefits of receiving peer support Provides services to clients during primary treatment services as ordered on the Treatment Plan or other Plan of Service. Maintains up-to-date written documentation of program services to client in individual client folders. Prepares, maintains and/or processes various reports and records such as monthly reports, etc. Actively supports ERI values of acknowledgment, commitment, openness, celebration, and humility. Actively support a trauma informed and responsive work environment as demonstrated in the 5 core values of safety, trustworthiness, choice, collaboration, and empowerment. Actively supports and implements Motivational Interviewing as the program's core evidence based practice. Serves on Commission committee(s) as needed. Performs other related duties as required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Practical knowledge of peer to peer support, principles, and techniques Knowledge and understanding of the characteristics of substance use disorders Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with clients, staff and other agencies Strong knowledge of community resources Ability to communicate clearly through both written and oral reports Ability to follow oral and written instructions Ability to handle crisis situations Must have a valid SC Driver's License and be able to provide proof of insurance
REQUIRED TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
High School Diploma and at least 3 years continuous recovery from a substance use disorder. Must have knowledge of and experience with community recovery resources and basic computer skills (testing required). Prior recovery advocacy experience is highly desired. Successful candidate must be able to become certified as Peer Support Specialist through DAODAS.
