Job Description

Loudoun County is one of the fastest-growing counties in the country, known for its excellent quality of life and strong economy, while embracing its historic presence. Located 35 miles west of Washington, D.C., Loudoun County offers a diverse blend of cultural, recreational, and educational opportunities. The Loudoun County Department of Family Services is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to join our team as a Protective Services Intake Specialist. The successful candidate will support the Preventive and Protective Services division within the Department of Family Services, which envisions better health, safety, and well-being for all. We support individuals and families in the community to live their best lives while advocating for those most vulnerable and respecting their right to self- determination. The Intake Specialist delivers exceptional customer service by handling calls on a joint hotline dedicated to reporting suspected abuse and neglect of children, or exploitation of persons 65 years and older, or adults with disabilities. This multifaceted role includes the following core responsibilities: Screening and triaging all incoming calls and referrals. Validating and assessing referrals to determine assignment priority, classification, and appropriate response in accordance with program policies. Assisting staff with interpreting policies related to validation and response procedures. Training new team members to ensure consistent application of protocols. Preparing unit reports and compiling statistical data. Communicating validation decisions to callers and mandated reporters. Providing public education on issues related to child abuse and neglect or exploitation of persons 65 years and older or adults with disabilities. Accurately documenting all calls, referrals, and correspondence promptly within designated information systems. Participating in on-call shifts and performing additional duties as needed to support 24-hour operations and timely crisis response. Hiring salary is commensurate with experience. Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field or a Bachelor's degree in any field with a minimum of two (2) years of directly related experience in a human services area.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of social services systems for children, families, and adults, including the application of trauma-informed and strengths-based practices. Bilingual skills in Spanish and English. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing pre-employment background checks, to include criminal, credit, CPS/APS, and DMV. Valid driver's license and good driving record (driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification). Hold or obtain certifications such as CPR if required for the assigned position. Obtain specific training, such as CPS/Foster Care/APS state training as required or desired for the assigned area.
