EXEMPT/SALARIED POSITION SUMMARY
The Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) is a key member of a multidisciplinary team providing assessment, treatment, and recovery support services for individuals with substance use disorders. This role supports clients through stabilization, recovery planning, self-advocacy, and connection to community resources while contributing to comprehensive, culturally responsive care.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct substance use disorder assessments in accordance with ASAM criteria and organizational policies.
- Develop, implement, and update individualized treatment and service plans (reviewed at least monthly).
- Provide individual, group, and family counseling services.
- Deliver case management services, including care coordination and referrals.
- Maintain an active caseload and document all client interactions, treatment progress, and aftercare plans in a timely manner.
- Complete daily documentation and billing-related activity reports.
- Coordinate intake processes for new clients.
- Collaborate with courts, probation officers, and external agencies as needed.
- Connect clients with community resources related to education, employment, housing, and recovery support.
- Support clients in developing life skills and participating in social, educational, and recovery-oriented activities.
- Provide community education on substance use prevention and recovery.
- Participate in program development, including prevention and intervention initiatives.
- Work collaboratively with Health and Social Services team members to support integrated care.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Associate Degree in Addiction Counseling or equivalent required by Washington State Department of Health.
- Experience working with Tribal Communities preferred. SKILLS
- Knowledge of substance use disorder treatment practices, including ASAM criteria.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and support client self-advocacy.
- Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage caseloads, maintain accurate records, and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency with standard office equipment and computer systems.
- Ability to pass a criminal background check and pre-employment and random drug screenings.
- Must be drug-free and out of treatment for a minimum of two years.
CERTIFICATONS AND LICENCES
- Current Washington State Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) certification.
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- First Aid, CPR and Blood Pathogen Certification (or obtain upon hire).
WORK ENVIRONMENT
This position operates in a client-centered environment across office, clinic, and community-based settings, working with individuals experiencing substance use disorders and complex social or legal challenges. The role involves both independent work and collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, including coordination with healthcare providers, social services, courts, and community partners. Travel within the service area may be required for client meetings, court appearances, outreach, and community events. While the schedule is generally consistent, some flexibility is needed to meet client needs. The position requires maintaining professional boundaries, sound judgment, and the ability to effectively respond to emotionally charged or crisis situations.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
