Our programs combine evidence-based clinical care with strong family involvement and individualized treatment planning. We are seeking a passionate and engaging Substance Abuse Counselor to support our growing Pasadena PHP and IOP programs. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with adolescents and wants to help young people develop insight, accountability, coping skills, and long-term recovery strategies. Position Summary The Substance Abuse Counselor will provide substance use education, counseling, and recovery support services to adolescents participating in PHP and IOP treatment. The counselor will work closely with therapists, psychiatrists, case managers, and families to support clients with substance use and co-occurring mental health concerns. This is a part-time position requiring in-person services at our Pasadena location. Responsibilities
  • Facilitate substance use education and recovery-focused groups for adolescents
  • Provide individual substance use counseling sessions as clinically indicated
  • Complete substance use screenings and assessments
  • Assist in the development and implementation of treatment goals related to substance use recovery
  • Collaborate with primary therapists and multidisciplinary treatment team members
  • Support clients in identifying triggers, developing relapse prevention plans, and building healthy coping skills
  • Participate in treatment team meetings and case consultations
  • Communicate with families regarding recovery recommendations and treatment progress when appropriate
  • Maintain timely and accurate clinical documentation
  • Promote a positive, engaging, and recovery-oriented treatment environment Qualifications
  • Current
CDAC I, CDAC
II, CADC, or equivalent substance use counseling certification required
  • Experience working with adolescents preferred
  • Experience in behavioral health, substance use treatment, PHP, IOP, residential treatment, or outpatient settings preferred
  • Knowledge of co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders
  • Strong group facilitation and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Strong organizational and documentation skills Preferred Experience
  • Adolescent behavioral health treatment
  • Motivational Interviewing (MI)
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) principles
  • Relapse prevention planning
  • Family systems and family engagement
