- Full-time Position Overview The Primary Therapist is responsible for delivering direct clinical services to clients with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions .
This role manages a caseload and serves as the client's main point of contact for treatment, ensuring continuity of care from admission through discharge. Key Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial and substance use assessments Develop and maintain individualized treatment plans in collaboration with clients and the clinical team
Provide:
Individual therapy (minimum weekly sessions) Group therapy (process, psychoeducation, relapse prevention) Family therapy as appropriate Utilize evidence-based modalities such as: CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) Motivational Interviewing (MI) Relapse Prevention Therapy Maintain an active caseload (typically 6-12 clients residential, 10-20 outpatient) Complete timely and accurate documentation in EMR systems (e.g., KIPU) Lead or participate in treatment team meetings and case reviews Provide crisis intervention and risk assessments Coordinate care with: Medical staff Psychiatric providers Case managers External referral sources Ensure compliance with: DHCS (California Department of Health Care Services) Joint Commission (if applicable) HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 confidentiality regulations
Required Qualifications:
Pre-licensed encouraged to apply / no license required Master's degree in: Marriage & Family Therapy Clinical Counseling or related field
AMFT, ACSW, APCC
, or
LMFT, LCSW, LPCC
Experience working with: Substance use disorders Dual diagnosis populations
Knowledge of:
Addiction, relapse cycles, and recovery models (12-step, harm reduction, etc.) Preferred Qualifications 1-3+ years in: Residential treatment Detox or withdrawal management PHP/IOP programs Experience facilitating process groups and relapse prevention groups Familiarity with insurance documentation and medical necessity criteria Experience with trauma-informed care Core Competencies Strong understanding of addiction and recovery dynamics Ability to build rapport with high-acuity clients Skilled in group facilitation and conflict management Effective time management and documentation skills Ethical decision-making and professional boundaries Ability to handle crisis situations and emotional intensity Work Environment Settings may include: Detox Residential inpatient Fast-paced, team-oriented clinical environment
