Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Substance Abuse Counselor to join our dynamic behavioral health team. In this vital role, you will provide expert counseling and support to individuals battling addiction and co-occurring mental health conditions. Your energetic approach will help motivate clients toward recovery, utilizing evidence-based therapies and personalized treatment plans. You will play a key role in guiding clients through their journey to sobriety, fostering hope, resilience, and lasting change. Duties Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to evaluate substance use history, mental health status, and overall treatment needs Develop and implement individualized treatment plans incorporating psychotherapy, behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing techniques Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions focused on addiction recovery, mental health management, and relapse prevention Provide crisis intervention and manage emergency situations with sensitivity and professionalism Coordinate care with families, community resources, hospitals, and other healthcare providers to ensure holistic support Maintain accurate medical documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations, including progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge summaries Conduct diagnostic evaluations using
ICD-9/ICD-10
coding systems for proper diagnosis documentation Engage in data collection and research activities to improve treatment outcomes and program effectiveness Manage case loads efficiently through case management practices, including intake assessments and ongoing patient care planning Apply knowledge of medical terminology and behavioral health concepts to support patient care and documentation Requirements Bachelor's or master's degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field; licensure or certification as required by state law for addiction counseling or clinical practice Proven experience in addiction counseling, behavioral health, or mental health services with a focus on substance abuse recovery Strong skills in psychotherapy modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and applied behavior analysis (ABA) Expertise in motivational interviewing, crisis management, and group therapy facilitation Familiarity with medical records systems, CPT coding (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD coding systems (ICD-9/ICD-10), and HIPAA compliance standards Knowledge of addiction medicine principles, trauma-informed care including PTSD management, and family/couple counseling techniques Excellent communication skills with the ability to build rapport quickly with diverse populations Ability to handle crisis situations effectively while maintaining professionalism and empathy Home & community care experience is preferred; hospital experience is a plus Join us in transforming lives through compassionate care!
