Job Description

Overview Join our dedicated team as a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor, where you will play a vital role in guiding individuals through their recovery journey. This dynamic position offers the opportunity to provide compassionate, evidence-based addiction counseling and mental health support. You will assess patient needs, develop personalized treatment plans, and deliver both individual and group therapy sessions. Your expertise will help clients overcome substance use challenges, improve their mental health, and achieve lasting recovery. Responsibilities Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to evaluate addiction severity, mental health status, and overall well-being using diagnostic tools such as ICD coding systems (ICD-9, ICD-10). Develop and implement individualized treatment plans incorporating behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and other evidence-based modalities. Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions focused on addiction medicine, mental health counseling, trauma-informed care (including PTSD), and family dynamics. Perform crisis intervention when necessary, managing urgent situations with professionalism and sensitivity while coordinating with emergency services if required. Maintain accurate medical documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations, including progress notes, treatment plans, intake forms, and medical records. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for case management, patient care coordination, and discharge planning to ensure continuity of care within home and community settings. Collect data for research purposes and contribute to quality improvement initiatives by tracking treatment outcomes and behavioral health metrics. Requirements Valid certification as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC or equivalent), with active licensure or registration as required by state law. Proven experience in addiction counseling, clinical counseling, or behavioral health settings; hospital experience is a plus. Strong knowledge of psychotherapy techniques such as motivational interviewing, behavioral therapy, applied behavior analysis (ABA), and cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT). Familiarity with crisis management protocols, trauma-informed care (including PTSD), and case management practices. Ability to perform patient assessments using diagnostic tools like ICD coding systems (ICD-9/10) and CPT coding for billing purposes. Excellent communication skills for intake interviews, patient education, and collaboration with healthcare providers. Knowledge of medical terminology, medical documentation standards, HIPAA compliance, and electronic health record systems.
