Job Description

The Substance Abuse Recovery Counselor is responsible for creating Individual Treatment Plans with clients in the Long-Term Residential Recovery Program, providing regular updates, completing progress notes, providing interventions and other counseling services, and leading individual and group sessions. Some evening hours required.
Minimum Education:
Bachelor's degree plus two years of counseling, Master's degree preferred, but not required, with adequate experience
Experience and Special Skills:
Currently licensed/certified by the appropriate Louisiana board as one of the following professionals: Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW), or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC), Registered Addiction Counselor (RAC), or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).
Position Responsibilities:
Provide direct care to clients utilizing the 12 core functions of substance abuse counseling and may serve as primary counselor to specified caseload. Serve as a resource person for other professionals and paraprofessionals in their specific area of expertise. Attend and participate in client care conferences, treatment planning activities, and discharge planning. Provide on-site and direct professional supervision of any paraprofessional or inexperienced professional. Function as the patient advocate in all treatment decisions affecting the client. Prepare and write notes/other documents related to client recovery, e.g. assessment, progress notes, treatment plans, etc. Provide only those services that are appropriate to their profession. Ability to independently coordinate efforts to maintain proper certification and licensure, and continuing education credits as needed per authorized licensing board for which counselors is registered.
