Job Description
Substance Abuse Counselor (Evenings & Weekends Required) Job Overview Grace Recovery Services is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Substance Abuse Counselor to join our mental health and addiction treatment team. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive clinical support—including individual and group therapy, crisis intervention, and case management—to individuals struggling with substance use disorders across our outpatient levels of care. This role involves working closely with clients to complete assessments, develop personalized treatment plans, and facilitate recovery using evidence-based practices. The counselor will ensure compliance with HIPAA, state regulations, and organizational policies while maintaining accurate and timely clinical documentation. Availability for evenings and weekends is required . Position Summary The Substance Abuse Counselor will deliver recovery-oriented, client-centered care in a supportive outpatient setting. The ideal candidate is professional, detail-driven, and committed to making a meaningful impact in the lives of individuals and families served by Grace Recovery Services. Schedule Evenings and weekends required Schedule based on program and client needs Responsibilities Conduct thorough client assessments and diagnostic evaluations using appropriate medical terminology and ICD coding standards (ICD-9/ICD-10) Develop, implement, and update individualized treatment plans incorporating behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and addiction counseling techniques Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions focused on substance use disorders, mental health, and behavioral health strategies Utilize motivational interviewing, crisis intervention, and trauma-informed approaches to support clients through recovery challenges Complete clinical documentation, treatment planning, and discharge planning in a timely and accurate manner while adhering to HIPAA regulations Coordinate care and collaborate with counselors, case managers, leadership, and external providers as needed Provide family counseling and support services when appropriate to promote holistic recovery Promote a safe, supportive, and recovery-focused environment for all clients Maintain compliance with state regulations, ethical standards, and Grace Recovery Services policies Engage in ongoing professional development and required trainings related to clinical counseling and behavioral health best practices Qualifications & Experience Active Maryland certification required , one of the following: CAC-AD (Certified Associate Counselor - Alcohol & Drug) ADT (Alcohol & Drug Trainee) CSC-AD (Certified Supervised Counselor - Alcohol & Drug) Experience working in substance use disorder treatment, mental health counseling, or related behavioral health settings preferred Knowledge of psychotherapy, crisis management, behavioral therapy techniques, and motivational interviewing Familiarity with medical documentation standards, ICD coding systems, and HIPAA compliance Strong organizational, time-management, and documentation skills Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team Experience working with diverse populations, including families, is a plus What We Offer Supportive and collaborative work environment Opportunity for professional growth within a mission-driven organization Competitive compensation based on certification and experience Meaningful work serving the local recovery community How to Apply Interested candidates should submit their resume and applicable certifications for consideration.
