Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Certified Substance Abuse Counselor to join our dynamic behavioral health team. In this vital role, you will provide comprehensive addiction counseling and mental health support to individuals struggling with substance use disorders. Your expertise will help clients develop effective coping strategies, achieve recovery goals, and improve overall well-being. Duties Conduct thorough patient assessments, including diagnostic evaluations and intake interviews, to determine individual treatment needs. Develop personalized treatment plans incorporating psychotherapy, behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and motivational interviewing techniques. Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions focused on addiction medicine, mental health counseling, and behavior management strategies. Implement crisis intervention protocols to support clients experiencing acute distress or relapse episodes, ensuring safety and stabilization. Maintain accurate medical documentation, including progress notes, treatment plans, and medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate case management, discharge planning, and community care services such as home visits or hospital-based care. Utilize research and data collection methods to monitor client progress, adjust treatment approaches, and contribute to program improvement efforts. Experience Proven experience in addiction counseling, clinical counseling, or behavioral health settings with a focus on substance use disorders. Strong background in psychotherapy modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), applied behavior analysis (ABA), and social work principles. Familiarity with crisis management procedures, PTSD care protocols, and trauma-informed care practices. Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), and medical documentation standards necessary for accurate recordkeeping. Experience working in hospital environments or community-based settings with home care experience is highly desirable. Demonstrated ability to perform patient assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and case management effectively. Certification as a Substance Abuse Counselor (e.g., CADC or equivalent) is required; additional training in CPT coding or ICD coding is a plus. $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
