The Emma L. Bowen Community Service Center is seeking a Substance Abuse Counselor to join our team. This position is a terrific opportunity for someone to gain additional experience and make a difference in the lives of our clients. For over 45 forty-five years, our organization has provided mental health and holistic services in northern Manhattan for families, children, adolescents, and other adults including the elderly in a supportive and caring environment. We also have an out-patient and residential substance abuse program as well as a Therapeutic Preschool for 3-5 year olds. Upper Manhattan Mental Health Center is a Certified National Health Service Corps (NHSC) site. Union Position Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Responsible for conducting clients' intake screening and assessments, determining eligibility and treatment needs, developing individualized person-centered service plans, providing counseling and case management services for individuals with substance use disorders and facilitating morning meetings. Ensures that services are delivered in accordance with program standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices for person center client care. Conduct comprehensive intake interviews and substance use assessments using approved screening tools. Gather and verify client information including medical including blood work and PPD, psych-evaluation if needed, psychosocial, and substance use histories. Determine appropriate level of care and eligibility for program services based on assessment findings and verify insurance through E-paces. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop individualized treatment plans. Maintain timely, accurate, and confidential documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system. Educate clients on program policies, confidentiality rights, and treatment expectations during intake. Monitor client progress and update treatment plans as needed. Assist clients with referrals to ancillary services such as mental health care, housing, medical, and employment resources. Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and training as required. Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and agency regulations (including
HIPAA, 42 CFR
Part 2, and relevant licensing standards). Always maintain professional and ethical standards Perform other duties as assigned. Education and/or
Work Experience Requirements:
Must have Bachelor's Degree or current License, (CASAC-T/CASAC/Provisional
CASAC, LMSW/LMHC/MHC-LP
). 1- 2 years of experience with addiction client-center treatment and experience in behavioral health. Familiarity with Motivational Interviewing, Behavioral therapies, person-centered treatment, and evidence-based practices for the treatment of addictions. Proficiency and experience with Microsoft Office and Electronic Health Records system.

$55,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
