Responsibilities Complete court-ordered substance use evaluations for individuals on probation who need to meet the criteria for compliance. Potential additional roles Conduct comprehensive patient assessments utilizing diagnostic tools such as DSM-5 criteria to evaluate substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions. Develop personalized treatment plans incorporating evidence-based practices like cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, and behavioral therapy to support recovery. Facilitate individual and group therapy sessions focused on addiction counseling, mental health counseling, and relapse prevention strategies. Manage clinical documentation standards diligently, including medical records, progress notes, treatment plans, and compliance with HIPAA regulations. Engage in crisis intervention and crisis management to support clients experiencing acute distress or emergencies related to substance use or mental health crises. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate case management efforts, ensuring comprehensive care that addresses medical, psychological, and social needs. Maintain proficiency in EMR/EHR systems for accurate data collection, medical documentation, intake procedures, and treatment tracking. Qualifications Valid certification as a Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (e.g., CADC or equivalent) with current licensure or registration as required by state law. Demonstrated experience working with individuals with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions in clinical settings such as hospitals or community clinics. Strong knowledge of addiction medicine, behavioral health practices, DSM-5 diagnostic criteria, ICD coding (ICD-9/10), and CPT coding for billing purposes. Proficiency in psychotherapy techniques including motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), applied behavior analysis (ABA), and case management strategies. Familiarity with crisis intervention methods, trauma-informed care (including PTSD care), mental health care principles, and family counseling approaches. Excellent clinical documentation skills adhering to medical documentation standards while maintaining confidentiality under HIPAA guidelines. Ability to work effectively within electronic health records (EHR) systems for patient assessment, progress tracking, and data collection.
