Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Substance Abuse Counselor to join our dynamic behavioral health team. In this vital role, you will provide comprehensive addiction counseling and mental health support to individuals struggling with substance use disorders. Your expertise will guide clients through recovery, utilizing evidence-based therapies and personalized treatment plans. You will play a key role in fostering a supportive environment that empowers clients to achieve lasting sobriety and improved well-being. Duties Conduct thorough patient assessments, including diagnostic evaluations and intake interviews, to determine individual treatment needs. Develop and implement customized treatment plans incorporating behavioral therapy, cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and other evidence-based approaches. Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions focused on addiction recovery, mental health management, and relapse prevention. Provide crisis intervention and crisis management support to clients experiencing acute distress or emergencies. Maintain accurate medical documentation, including progress notes, treatment plans, and medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care, case management, and community resources such as child & family counseling or home & community care services. Utilize research and data collection methods to monitor client progress, adjust treatment strategies, and ensure quality care delivery. Stay current with medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), CPT coding, and behavioral health best practices to enhance clinical effectiveness. Experience Proven experience in addiction counseling, clinical counseling, or behavioral health settings with a focus on substance use disorders. Strong background in psychotherapy techniques such as behavioral therapy, applied behavior analysis (ABA), and social work principles. Demonstrated skills in motivational interviewing, crisis intervention, trauma-informed care (including PTSD), and case management. Familiarity with hospital experience or home & community care environments is preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology, medical documentation standards, ICD coding systems, and HIPAA compliance is essential. Experience conducting diagnostic evaluations using DSM criteria and managing patient care through intake assessments and ongoing monitoring. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team committed to behavioral health excellence.
