Job Description

Job Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Certified Substance Abuse Counselor to join our dynamic behavioral health team. In this vital role, you will provide expert counseling and support to individuals struggling with substance use disorders, guiding them through recovery and helping them achieve lasting wellness. Your expertise in addiction medicine, behavioral health, and mental health counseling will empower clients to overcome challenges, develop coping strategies, and rebuild their lives. This position offers an engaging environment where your skills in psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and case management will make a meaningful difference every day. Duties Conduct comprehensive patient assessments to evaluate substance use history, mental health status, and overall well-being using diagnostic tools aligned with ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding standards. Develop personalized treatment plans incorporating evidence-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), behavioral therapy, applied behavior analysis, and motivational interviewing. Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions focused on addiction counseling, mental health support, and behavioral management strategies. Implement crisis intervention techniques to manage acute situations effectively while ensuring patient safety and compliance with HIPAA regulations. Coordinate care with medical professionals, social workers, family members, and community resources to support holistic recovery efforts. Maintain accurate medical documentation, records, and notes in accordance with HIPAA standards; ensure timely data collection for research purposes. Conduct intake evaluations, patient care planning, and diagnostic evaluations to inform treatment approaches. Utilize CPT coding for billing purposes and ensure proper documentation of services provided. Engage in ongoing professional development by staying current on research developments in addiction medicine, behavioral health, PTSD care, and crisis management. Experience Proven experience working in home & community care settings or hospital environments with diverse populations. Demonstrated expertise in psychotherapy modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), social work practices, and trauma-informed care such as PTSD management. Strong background in addiction counseling, clinical counseling, and mental health treatment planning. Familiarity with medical terminology, ICD coding systems (ICD-9/ICD-10), medical records management, and medical documentation standards. Experience conducting diagnostic evaluations and case management for patients with complex behavioral health needs. Skilled in crisis management techniques for acute behavioral or mental health crises; capable of applying crisis intervention protocols effectively. Knowledge of applied behavior analysis (ABA) principles used within behavioral health treatments. Ability to perform patient assessments accurately while adhering to confidentiality standards under HIPAA regulations.
