Job Description

AmeriCorps 4‑H Youth Program Leader (Multiple Summer Opportunities Across Central Iowa) •Eligible to Pair With Academic Internships This is a national service position, not a traditional job. AmeriCorps Members serve their communities by leading youth programs, supporting positive development, and expanding access to high‑quality learning experiences. Members receive a living allowance and an education award in recognition of their service, while gaining professional skills, leadership experience, and a pathway into education, youth development, public health, and community service careers.

$1,956.35 upon successful completion

Term:
Summer 2026 (Quarter‑Time AmeriCorps Term 450 hours) About AmeriCorps 4‑H AmeriCorps 4‑H engages communities across Iowa in empowering youth to reach their full potential through youth‑adult partnerships and research‑based experiences. Members deliver high‑quality youth programs, expand access to 4‑H learning, and help create sustainable youth opportunities in their communities. This summer, we are recruiting multiple AmeriCorps 4‑H Members to serve with one of our partner youth organizations. Applicants may indicate their preferred placement during the interview process. Available Service Opportunities 1. Boys & Girls Clubs of Story County — Youth Program Leader Help inspire and enable young people—especially those who need us most—to reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens.
Highlights:
Lead literacy, gardening, and enrichment activities for youth ages 6-11 Create safe, positive, and engaging environments Support structured summer programming with 10-15 youth per group Collect program data and support youth development outcomes 2. Camp Fire Heart of Iowa — Summer Camp Program Leader Camp Fire connects young people to the outdoors, to others, and to themselves. Members help deliver high‑quality summer camp experiences rooted in positive youth development.
Highlights:
Develop and lead lesson plans in STEM, literacy, outdoor education, creative arts, and life skills Prepare daily activities and support 25 hours/week of structured instructional time Build positive relationships and ensure youth safety Facilitate data collection and support weekly staff planning 3. Soccer for Success — Healthy Living & STEM Coach Soccer for Success uses soccer as a vehicle for healthy living, STEM learning, and social‑emotional development.
Highlights:
Lead soccer‑based youth programs that include 60 minutes of physical activity Teach soccer fundamentals, teamwork, leadership, and sportsmanship Integrate STEM in Soccer concepts through hands‑on activities Reach 125 additional youth through expanded programming Collect and process program data to create impact reports General Service Responsibilities (All Positions) Lead youth activities using positive youth development practices Prepare materials, set up learning spaces, and support daily program flow Build supportive relationships with youth and model positive behavior Collect surveys, attendance, and program data Attend required AmeriCorps 4‑H trainings and submit bi‑monthly timesheets Service Schedule Schedules vary slightly by site, but generally include: 25-40 hours per week Monday-Friday service (some weekend prep/debrief depending on site) Members do not serve on federal holidays Midpoint check‑in required Who Should Apply This is a great fit for students or emerging professionals interested in: Education Youth development Public health Coaching Recreation Social sciences STEM education Outdoor and camp programming And anyone who wants meaningful experience working with diverse youth in a supportive, hands‑on environment.
