Position Responsibilities Position Summary Plan, coordinate, implement, and evaluate Southern District Idaho 4-H Adventure Camps working cooperatively with the Ada County 4-H Extension Educator, camp advisory board and 4-H Extension professionals providing a positive, encouraging and safe environment for youth. Position is based in Boise, Idaho at the Ada County Extension Office. Camps are held at the Cascade Lake 4-H Camp in Donnelly, Idaho. Responsibilities Job Duty Function Plan, coordinate, and implement Southern District Idaho 4-H Adventure Camp by: Job Duties/Responsibilities Working with 4-H Youth Development Extension faculty, 4-H Adventure Camp Advisory Board, support staff, and other county 4-H professionals to promote teamwork, effective communication, and cohesiveness among all stakeholders of the camping program. Recruiting and working with adult chaperones, certified shooting sports instructors, lifeguards, nurses, and other camp staff. Ensuring all adults attending camp have completed the appropriate application, screening, and training process and are appropriately enrolled in ZSuite. Developing and delivering orientation and training in child protection, risk management, civil rights, youth development, 4-H Policies and Procedures, 4-H Code of Conduct, camp policies, and other expectations. Working with Extension faculty and teen camp counselors to plan and deliver educational, structured camping programs based on 4-H philosophy and goals, utilizing 4-H curriculum and American Camping Association standards, including workshops, classes, and activities. Assuring all equipment, materials, and supplies are purchased and available at camp. Organizing transportation to and from camp in cooperation with appropriate University of Idaho contracting authorities. Assisting with other events or activities related to the overnight camping program as assigned. Percentage Of Time 65% Essential/Marginal Essential Job Duty Function Market and promote 4-H overnight camping program by: Job Duties/Responsibilities Working with 4-H Youth Development faculty, 4-H Adventure Camp Advisory Board, and support staff to develop a marketing and promotional plan. Identifying and utilizing appropriate promotional outlets, including social media. Developing and distributing promotional materials. Preparing promotional releases for county 4-H programs, youth audiences, local media, and social media. Establishing and utilizing a volunteer (youth and/or adult) marketing and promotion committee to assist as appropriate. Answering questions, explaining and promoting the program, and providing support to parents and families. Percentage Of Time 20% Essential/Marginal Essential Job Duty Function Collect and report participation data and evaluate the camping program by: Job Duties/Responsibilities Working with 4-H Youth Development Educator to develop and implement an evaluation plan for all aspects of the camping program. Reporting all 4-H activities and contacts in the UI Digital Measures reporting system and ZSuite as appropriate. Communicating with faculty, staff, and volunteers about the results of programs, activities, and events. Percentage Of Time 10% Essential/Marginal Essential Job Duty Function Pursue professional development by: Job Duties/Responsibilities .Attending camp-related in-service training, professional meetings, and workshops as needed. Presenting new information to appropriate advisory groups, colleagues, and volunteers. Percentage Of Time 5% Essential/Marginal Marginal Position Qualifications Required Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Experience developing and managing short-term educational programs for youth. Experience working with and motivating people in a friendly, courteous manner. Experience recruiting and supervising youth and adult volunteers. Experience communicating in person and in writing with youth and adults. Experience working and providing leadership with a team. Experience preparing concise reports. Experience utilizing computers and current standard computer software. Experience with problem-solving, teamwork, and decision-making skills. Experience with customer service. Preferred Qualifications Professional, educational or personal experience in youth sports, after-school programs, and youth development programs (including the 4-H Youth Development program), with a commitment to serving others. Experience working with the 4-H Youth Development program or other out of school youth development program. Experience with program marketing and promotion. Experience interpreting and enforcing policies. Experience using elements of Positive Youth Development in program planning and delivery. Experience working with youth and adult volunteers. Experience with data entry, inventory management, supply purchasing, and budgeting. Physical Requirements & Working Conditions Ability to lift, carry and/or otherwise move program supplies up to 35 pounds. Ability and willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed to implement the program Work in an outdoor camp environment. Must provide own transportation for local travel. The university will follow applicable policies if a personal vehicle is used, which may include reimbursement at a pre-established mileage rate. The Camp Director will be expected to ride the bus with the campers and counselors when traveling to and from camp.
