POSITION SUMMARY
The BREATHE Program Counselor position is for the KU After School Program BREATHE, an evidence-based therapeutic program for children with Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). The Counselor will provide a fun and engaging experience for children and implement behavioral treatment protocols in accordance with the BREATHE manual. Counselors will implement an extensive positive and negative behavior modification treatment program including feedback and associated consequences, daily and weekly rewards, social praise and attention, appropriate commands, and removal from positive reinforcement.   • 29, 2026. Counselors will work 15 hours per week (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays 8:30a.m
  • 12:00p.m. and Thursdays 8:30 a.m.
  • 1:00 p.
m.) which includes staff meetings and additional training. Counselors will get at least 72 hours of direct clinical experience plus 70 hours of training, supervision, and support activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Working with other staff members to plan and coordinate program events. Leading and supporting attendees in age-appropriate sports and recreational activities. Participate in training in behavioral interventions and implement these interventions with fidelity. Monitoring participants to ensure compliance with program rules and prevent accidents. Memorizing all emergency procedures and enforcing program rules. Participate in staff meetings. Compliance with HIPAA guidelines and procedures. Maintains knowledge of and adheres to all standards of Universal Precautions. Reliable Attendance and Punctuality. Other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School Graduate or equivalent with one year of college coursework in a social science or education field required
Experience:
Volunteer or work experience with youth.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
Ability to read and understand research protocols and other written materials associated with implementing the treatment program. Attention to detail with ability to prioritize and manage time effectively. Highly organized; communicates effectively with students and parents; establishes and maintains cooperative working relationships; and significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
