Job Description

Make an impact on at-risk and homeless youth in your community! Sparrow's Nest is hiring for a part time House Staff in the afternoon hours and weekends to support the basic and intensive needs of homeless youth living in our residential facility. This position is in a fast paced and fun environment where staff lead our residents from crisis to self-sufficiency. Open shifts are Sundays through Tuesdays. Essential Job Functions The candidate must have strong communication skills, both in writing and verbally. Strong organizational skills are required. Must possess a valid Montana Driver's License, proof of personal automobile insurance, and must meet insurability requirements for agency automobile insurance policy. The employee must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee must able to use a computer. This position requires effectively communicating with youth and other staff through talking and listening. Must have the ability to work with youth and their families with an objective, non-judgmental attitude. Major Duties and Responsibilities Assist in leading residents from crisis to self-sufficiency. Attend mandatory meetings facilitated by the Resident Manager and/or Case Manager. Ensure that the house is properly maintained through monitoring resident chore completion and filling in when needed so that the house and grounds are clean. Responsible for entering maintenance requests and ensuring that the area of the house that needs maintenance is clean and ready for maintenance personnel. Use a strengths-based approach in assisting in progress of individualized planning. Partner with youth in improving independent living skills (cooking, budgeting, shopping, cleaning, hygiene, laundry, maintenance, etc.). Oversee facility safety and cleanliness. Provide proper documentation of inspections and drills. Lead recreational and/or life skills activities with the residents when required. Complete all necessary written documentation, record keeping, data entry, and reports as required. Assist in providing access to transportation for youth. Perform other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

EXPERIENCE
A combination of education and experience in social services is acceptable to meet the requirements of the position. Experience working with trauma and youth a plus. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and
ABILITIES
: Ability to work collaboratively and independently. Ability to be sensitive and responsive to cultural differences and a commitment to the value of cultural competency. Ability to establish and maintain rapport with youth and families, as well as other permanent support people and professionals. Ability to view families, both biological and chosen, as resources and support systems for youth, and commitment to involve families in services, as youth sees fit. Knowledge of trauma informed care, harm reduction, and positive youth development and apply these philosophies to individual clientele. Knowledge of ethical principles regarding professional boundaries, confidentiality, etc. Services provided are rooted in core principles of: 1) a strength-based approach which believes in the value and worth of each participant as an individual; 2) recognizing that participants' needs are best met through holistic and individualized service delivery. Our youth development approach enlists youth as stakeholders in designing goals that are meaningful and aligned with the youth's own individual skills, dreams and competencies.
