Director of Counseling, Scheduling & School-Based Youth Services Position Summary The Director of Counseling, Scheduling & School-Based Youth Services is responsible for the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of districtwide systems that support student academic planning, course access, graduation readiness, and comprehensive student support services. This role ensures that counseling, master scheduling, and school-based youth services operate as an integrated system that supports student success, increases engagement, and removes barriers to learning. The Director leads efforts to ensure that all students have access to appropriate coursework, are on track for graduation, and receive coordinated support services, including mental health, social services, and community-based resources. This position plays a critical role in aligning academic planning, scheduling, and student support systems to district priorities, ensuring that structures are equitable, efficient, and outcomes-driven. New Jersey School Counselor, Supervisor, Principal, or School Administrator Certificate Master's Degree in counseling, education, social work, or related field Advanced degree (Doctorate preferred) Qualifications Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferredMinimum:
Five (5) years of experience in counseling, school operations, or student services Three (3) years of leadership or supervisory experience Demonstrated expertise in: School counseling systems and student academic planning Master scheduling and course access Student support and youth service programs Strong knowledge of: Graduation requirements and credit tracking Student engagement and support systems School operations and scheduling practices Experience managing teams and cross-functional initiatives Core Responsibilities Counseling System Leadership (OWNER) Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive school counseling system. Establish expectations for counseling services across all schools Ensure alignment between counseling, academic planning, and student outcomes Promote proactive student support and guidance systems Ensure equitable access to counseling services Master Scheduling & Course Access (OWNER) Oversee districtwide scheduling systems to ensure equitable and efficient access to instruction. Establish expectations for master scheduling processes Ensure student access to: Core academic courses Advanced coursework (AP, honors, dual enrollment) Career and technical education programs Support schools in developing effective master schedules Align scheduling to staffing, enrollment, and program priorities Graduation Readiness & On-Track Systems (OWNER) Ensure systems support student progression toward graduation. Monitor student credit accumulation and on-track indicators Identify students at risk of not graduating Develop interventions to support graduation readiness Align counseling efforts to academic performance goals School-Based Youth Services & Wraparound Supports (OWNER) Oversee comprehensive youth services and community-based supports. Direct school-based youth services programs Coordinate access to: Mental health services Social services Community-based resources Ensure services are integrated with school systems Remove barriers to student engagement and success Data Monitoring & School Stat Alignment (OWNER) Ensure counseling and support systems are driven by data.Monitor key indicators:
On-track to graduate Course completion rates Student engagement and participation Align data to School Stat processes Support schools in using data to drive action School Support & Leadership Coaching (OWNER) Provide direct support to school leaders and counseling teams.Coach principals and counselors on:
Academic planning Scheduling Student support strategies Support schools in solving scheduling and student support challenges Integration with MTSS, Attendance & Engagement (OWNER) Ensure alignment with broader student support systems.Coordinate with:
MTSS & Intervention (academic supports) Attendance & Engagement (student participation) Culture & Behavior Systems (school climate) Ensure a unified approach to student success Professional Learning & Capacity Building (OWNER) Develop staff capacity in counseling and scheduling systems.Provide training on:
Counseling best practices Master scheduling Graduation requirements Ensure staff understand expectations and systems Policy Alignment & Compliance (OWNER) Ensure compliance with relevant policies and regulations. Monitor adherence to graduation requirements Ensure proper documentation and reporting Align practices with district and state requirements Cross-Departmental Alignment (NES Integration) Ensure systems are aligned across district functions.Collaborate with:
Instruction (course offerings and academic planning) Data (tracking and reporting) Enrollment (student placement and access) Ensure coherence across systems Continuous Improvement & Innovation (OWNER) Lead ongoing improvement of counseling and support systems. $204,761.00 Residency Requirement Under New Jersey's "New Jersey First Act" (N.J.S.A. 52:14-7), all employees of New Jersey public school districts must maintain bona fide New Jersey residency as a condition of employment. Candidates must already reside in New Jersey or establish residency within the required timeframe after hire. Current employees who were hired on or before September 1, 2011 are exempt from this requirement and may continue to reside outside the state.
