A Pediatric Evolution (APE) - Johnston, RI A Pediatric Evolution (APE) is a neurodiversity-affirming pediatric outpatient clinic seeking a compassionate, collaborative LMHC or LICSW to join our growing interdisciplinary team. This role will focus on providing play-based counseling and emotional regulation support for children and adolescents within a child-centered, relationship-based therapeutic environment. APE currently provides Occupational Therapy and Speech-Language Pathology services and is expanding to offer integrated play-based counseling services to support emotional regulation, coping skills, social-emotional development, and family support needs. We are looking for a clinician who values creativity, flexibility, collaboration, and individualized care while supporting children through developmentally appropriate, play-based therapeutic approaches. Position Overview The clinician will provide outpatient counseling services for children and adolescents ages 2-18 with varying developmental, emotional, behavioral, sensory, social, and regulatory needs.
Services may include:
Play-based counseling Emotional regulation support Social-emotional skill development Parent/caregiver coaching Trauma-informed interventions Neurodiversity-affirming therapeutic approaches Collaboration with OT and SLP providers This position offers flexibility and the opportunity to help shape and grow counseling services within a highly supportive pediatric setting. Ideal Candidate We are seeking someone who: Enjoys working with children and families Values child-led and relationship-based approaches Is collaborative and open to interdisciplinary teamwork Has experience or interest in: play therapy emotional regulation autism/neurodiversity-affirming care ADHD anxiety behavioral challenges sensory and developmental differences Is comfortable supporting caregivers through coaching and education Can adapt interventions to meet individual developmental and communication needs Formal play therapy certification is welcomed but not required.
Qualifications Required:
Active Rhode Island LMHC or LICSW license Experience working with children, adolescents, or families Strong interpersonal and communication skills Ability to complete timely documentation
Preferred:
Play therapy training or experience DIR/Floortime, trauma-informed, or child-centered experience Experience collaborating within multidisciplinary settings Familiarity with neurodiversity-affirming practices Schedule & Compensation Flexible scheduling options available Part-time or full-time opportunities Afternoon/evening availability preferred Fee-for-service compensation W-2 opportunities available depending on hours worked Why Join APE?
