In this vital role, you will support the social, emotional, and academic development of students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Your energetic approach will foster a positive school environment, promote mental health and behavioral well-being, and collaborate closely with teachers, parents, and staff to ensure every child's success. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact on young learners' lives while promoting inclusive and culturally responsive counseling practices. Duties Provide individual and group counseling sessions focused on social skills, emotional regulation, conflict resolution, and behavioral management for students in grades K-5. Must have good communication skills to coordinate wrap around services to support students and families. Develop and implement comprehensive counseling programs that address academic advising, mental health support, and behavioral health needs. Collaborate with teachers to identify students requiring additional support through classroom observations and standardized testing data. Facilitate conflict management strategies and restorative practices to foster a respectful school climate. Conduct assessments related to childhood development, child welfare, and special learning needs to tailor interventions effectively. Offer crisis intervention services and coordinate with child protective services or child welfare agencies when necessary. Promote cultural diversity counseling and inclusive practices that respect each child's background and individual needs. Maintain confidential records of counseling sessions, behavioral incidents, and progress reports in compliance with school policies. Engage families through communication about student progress, behavioral concerns, and available community resources such as mental health counseling. Skills Strong communication skills to effectively engage with children, parents, teachers, and community partners. Expertise in behavioral health, conflict management, and social work principles. Knowledge of childhood development stages and best practices for working with children in educational settings. Experience with classroom experience, classroom management strategies, and standardized testing processes. Ability to conduct individual and group counseling sessions tailored to diverse student populations. Familiarity with child protective services procedures and child welfare protocols. Culturally responsive counseling skills that honor diversity within the school community. Proficiency in behavior management techniques that promote positive student behaviors. Experience working with special education students or those requiring special accommodations and learning differences is a plus.
