Job Description
Job Summary NexGen Mentors is seeking a passionate and dedicated Youth Peer Mentor to empower young individuals right here in the Danville community through guidance, support, and positive role modeling. In this role, you will work directly with local youth, particularly those facing behavioral health challenges or disabilities, to foster resilience, develop life skills, and promote overall well-being. Your energetic approach will inspire confidence and encourage personal growth, helping young people in our city navigate challenges and achieve their full potential. This paid position offers a rewarding opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of Danville's next generation while gaining valuable professional experience in social work, mentoring, and child welfare. We are looking for someone who is deeply committed to our community and ready to lead with empathy and energy to help our youth thrive. Responsibilities Build trusting relationships with youth by providing consistent mentorship and emotional support. Assist youth in developing coping strategies and social skills to manage behavioral health or disability-related challenges. Collaborate with families, educators, and healthcare providers to create individualized support plans. Facilitate engaging activities that promote personal development, self-esteem, and positive behavior. Support youth in setting goals related to education, employment, or life skills, guiding them toward achievable milestones. Manage conflict situations with patience and effective communication to foster a safe environment. Document interactions, progress notes, and any incidents accurately to ensure proper record-keeping and follow-up.
Qualifications Experience & Education:
Requires at least two years of experience working with youth in educational or social service settings, or a four-year degree in a related field.Specialized Knowledge:
Familiarity with special education, behavioral health issues, and child welfare principles is essential.Mentorship & Communication:
Strong ability to inspire Danville's youth through effective mentoring, conflict management, and clear communication.Professionalism:
While a social work background is preferred, we value candidates who handle sensitive situations with empathy, patience, and professionalism.Community Focus:
