Job Title:
Solar Journeyman Electrician Job Description This role focuses on installing, maintaining, and repairing photovoltaic (PV) solar systems on a large-scale project in Maine. You will apply your journeyman-level electrical expertise to ensure safe, code-compliant solar installations while working outdoors in a fast-paced, production-driven environment. Responsibilities Install, maintain, and repair photovoltaic (PV) solar systems by mounting and wiring solar panels and inverters. Test electrical connections and system performance to ensure safe, reliable, and code-compliant operation. Troubleshoot electrical and system issues, identify root causes, and implement effective repairs. Land and bend conduit for aboveground and underground electrical work in accordance with electrical codes and project specifications. Lead underground electrical work, including routing, securing, and protecting conductors and conduit. Perform electrical terminations, wire management, module-to-module connections, and string harness installations. Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and construction documents to ensure accurate and efficient installations. Perform VOC testing and other system verification tasks to confirm proper system function and performance. Install and assemble racking systems and related structural components for solar arrays. Use power and non-powered hand tools safely and effectively to complete daily tasks. Work collaboratively with the project team to meet daily production goals and maintain project schedules. Follow all safety procedures, site rules, and electrical codes while working in varying weather conditions. Support a clean, organized work area and contribute to a positive, safety-focused jobsite culture. Essential Skills Active Journeyman Electrician license in the state of Maine. At least 6 years of work experience as a licensed electrician. Ability to obtain and maintain required state licensing, including payment of applicable license fees. Ability to successfully complete a background check as a condition of employment. Hands-on experience installing, maintaining, and repairing PV solar systems. Proficiency in landing and bending conduit for both aboveground and underground electrical work. Demonstrated ability to perform electrical terminations, wire management, module-to-module connections, and string harness installations. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings. Experience with VOC testing and verification of solar electrical systems. Strong knowledge of electrical codes, safety standards, and best practices. Ability to work comfortably outdoors in varying and extreme weather conditions on uneven ground. Capacity to work 50-60 hours per week, including overtime and weekend hours as required. Strong teamwork orientation and reliability in a fast-paced, production-focused environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications Experience working with both power tools and non-powered hand tools in construction or electrical environments. Previous solar installation or solar construction experience on large-scale projects. Experience with racking systems and structural assembly for solar arrays. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot electrical and system issues independently. Positive attitude and a strong work ethic while performing physically demanding tasks. Comfort working under production goals and handling pressure to meet deadlines. Ability to adapt to changing weather conditions and site requirements. Work Environment This role is based on an outdoor solar construction site in Maine, where you will regularly work in a range of weather conditions, including extreme temperatures. The terrain is often uneven, and the environment is fast-paced with daily production goals that require sustained focus and physical effort. Standard hours are on first shift, typically 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with Saturdays scheduled as overtime and Sundays reserved as a buffer for weather-related delays. A typical workweek ranges from 50 to 60 hours and regular overtime is required. The site provides portable toilets for use during working hours and a trailer for changing or staging, but there is little to no shelter otherwise, so you must arrive prepared for the day's weather with appropriate clothing and gear. You will frequently use power tools and non-powered hand tools and may need to contact the site superintendent for entrance details on your first day. The environment emphasizes safety, productivity, and collaboration among all crew members. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of Franklin, ME. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $60.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
