Job Description

Job Summary A Solid Waste Driver is responsible for collecting, loading, and transporting residential and commercial refuse and recyclables to designated disposal sites, operating heavy-duty collection vehicles, and performing daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure proper maintenance and safety. Key duties include adhering to assigned routes and schedules, operating collection mechanisms, ensuring proper disposal, completing daily vehicle inspections and reports, and performing minor vehicle maintenance. Duties Safely operates various solid waste collection vehicles and equipment, including skid steers and automated collection vehicles.
  • Performs daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections to check fluid levels, brakes, lights, and other essential functions.
  • Completes daily vehicle inspection reports (DVIRs) and reports any mechanical issues or maintenance needs to supervisors.
  • Performs routine maintenance such as washing, cleaning, adding fuel, oil, and coolant.
  • Drives assigned routes for residential and commercial waste collection.
  • Operates the vehicle's loading and dumping mechanisms to collect and dispose of trash, recyclables, and green waste.
  • Assists in manually loading refuse into hoppers or servicing containers when necessary.
  • Ensures proper sorting of waste and recyclables for disposal.
  • Adheres strictly to traffic laws, company safety protocols, and waste collection regulations.
  • Identifies and responds to potential hazards, such as fluid spills or debris, applying safety standards.
  • Ensures the safety of the crew, the public, and equipment during all operationsInteracts courteously and professionally with customers and the general public.
  • Tags trash and recycling as necessary to inform customers of proper collection procedures.
  • Completes daily route information reports, notes any service issues, and communicates with dispatch or supervisors.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Valid California Driver's license.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug test and randomized drug testing.
