Job Description
Spacecraft Avionics Engineer leading command and data handling architecture, requirements development, hardware selection, and subsystem integration across spaceflight programs.
Job Responsibilities:
Serve as the Responsible Engineer and technical lead for spacecraft avionics and command and data handling across one or more programs Conduct technical trade studies and define command and data handling architecture, including flight computers, data buses, data storage, time distribution, redundancy schemes, and interface definitions Develop subsystem and unit-level requirements, interface control documents, and verification plans aligned to system-level requirements Support avionics hardware and software integration and test activities Oversee selection, qualification, and acceptance of spacecraft avionics hardware Support anomaly resolution during environmental testing and integrated test campaigns Participate in design reviews including SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, and Launch Readiness reviews Mentor junior engineers and contribute to electrical engineering best practices across programsJob Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field Minimum 5 years of experience in spacecraft avionics or embedded systems development Experience with command and data handling subsystem development for space platforms Experience developing specifications, interface control documents, and other engineering artifacts for flight hardware Experience analyzing data throughput, latency, timing, and synchronization Ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance Ability to travel up to 25%Preferred Skills:
Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related discipline 8+ years supporting government or commercial space programs Expert understanding of flight computers, data buses, time synchronization, and secure data flow Experience with radiation-tolerant electronics and component selection for space environments Experience developing modular command and data handling architectures across multiple missions and platforms Expertise with spacecraft communication protocols such as SpaceWire, RS-422/485, CAN, and Ethernet Experience with OpenVPX architectural framework and VITA standards Understanding of microcontrollers, microprocessors, FPGAs, and GPUs, including architectures, tradeoffs, and use cases Knowledge of memory and storage technologies including DDRx, MRAM, NOR, and NAND Knowledge of networking, routing, switching, and encryption architectures Experience architecting and implementing mission payload processing solutions for different mission applications and orbital regimes Hands-on experience with avionics unit and subsystem-level integration and testPay:
