Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Step into a fulfilling contract opportunity working with grades 9-11 students as a Special Education Teacher for the 2026-2027 school year, located near Port Orchard, WA. This full-time position runs from August 3, 2026, through June 16, 2027, providing you the chance to have a meaningful impact on the academic and personal growth of a dedicated group of learners. You'll be guiding a classroom of 25 students, developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs), and collaborating closely with fellow educators and staff to foster an inclusive and supportive environment.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
Valid Special Education Teacher certification/licensure (or eligibility) for the state of Washington Experience working with students in grades 9-11 or similar age groups Strong knowledge of best practices in special education, including IEP development and progress monitoring Excellent communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive learning atmosphere for all students
Responsibilities:
Create, review, and update IEPs tailored to each student's unique needs Deliver engaging, differentiated instruction in small group and individualized settings Assess student progress and adapt teaching strategies as needed Collaborate with general education teachers, support staff, and families Maintain thorough documentation and comply with all special education laws and guidelines Support social, emotional, and academic growth in a nurturing environment This contract position provides stability throughout the school year, opportunities for professional growth, and a chance to work with a passionate team making a difference every day.
