Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Make a real impact in students' lives with an engaging special education contract opportunity for the 2026-2027 school year. This role offers a blend of instructional settings, with a mix of self-contained, push-in, and pull-out teaching models. You'll have the chance to work with either 3rd or 8th graders (exact grade placement determined closer to the start date), providing instruction in math, reading, science, and social studies, and shaping a supportive environment for diverse learning needs. Schedule runs Monday through Friday, from 7:40 am to 3:20 pm, including a 30-minute paid lunch break and a one-hour paid planning period for approximately 39 hours a week. The school year spans from August 12th, 2026 through May 21st, 2027. The hourly pay is competitive, ranging from $37 to $55 per hour, with potential eligibility for travel stipends—your recruiter can discuss details during your screening. What you'll need: Current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with LBS1 endorsement (PK-22) Solid background in behavior management; many students present with behavior disorders Genuine interest in working with either 3rd or 8th grade, as final placement is determined by the school Proficiency in drafting, managing, and completing IEPs independently, including setting goals (not just in team settings) Previous experience in special education classroom settings strongly preferred Role responsibilities: Deliver differentiated lessons using a mix of instruction formats (self-contained, push-in, and pull-out) Monitor student progress, adapt strategies, and collaborate with support staff Complete IEPs accurately and independently, liaising with families and school teams Foster an inclusive, positive classroom culture responsive to both academic and behavioral needs If you're passionate about supporting diverse learners and eager to bring your expertise to a dynamic school environment, take the next step—apply today to learn more about this fulfilling position!
