Job Description

Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Seeking an experienced Special Education Teacher for a contract position serving students in the upcoming 2026-2027 school year. In this meaningful role, you will provide direct instruction and support to learners with specialized needs, fostering growth in a collaborative and encouraging environment. The ideal candidate is passionate about making a difference and able to skillfully manage challenges while remaining focused on student progress.
Key Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with an endorsement in Autism Spectrum Disorder or another area of special education, or a willingness to enroll in classes to secure the required endorsement Active Michigan Teacher Certificate Proven capability to manage aggressive behaviors with a calm, constructive approach—both physically and emotionally Strong problem-solving and conflict management skills Flexibility for alternative qualifications as approved
Core Responsibilities:
Develop, implement, and assess individualized education programs (IEPs) to meet students' unique needs Utilize evidence-based instructional strategies and adapt curriculum as necessary Work collaboratively with families, support staff, and other educators to promote student success Maintain effective classroom management, ensuring a safe, positive learning environment Accurately document student progress, behavioral incidents, and communication with stakeholders Participate in ongoing professional development and team meetings Benefit from a supportive contract placement working with dedicated professionals committed to empowering students with special needs.
