Job Description
Newberry Community School is seeking a Special Education Teacher to provide specialized instruction and support to students with disabilities in accordance with each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP). Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in the appropriate special education area. Current Florida teaching certificate in Exceptional Student Education (ESE). Meets professional teacher education requirements established by the school and state. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of special education. Thorough knowledge of effective instructional methods for students with disabilities. Knowledge of school rules, regulations, and procedures. Ability to develop and implement IEP goals, services, and supports. Ability to assess student progress and adjust instruction as needed. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, administrators, and the general public. Knowledge of relevant technology and ability to use technology to support individualized instruction. Ability to work with students with ADD, behavioral, and emotional disabilities. Ability to report to work on a regular and punctual basis. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Provide research-based specialized instruction to address the goals and objectives contained within each student's IEP. Assess student progress and determine the need for additional reinforcement or adjustments to instructional techniques. Use appropriate teaching techniques, methods, and learning principles to support student achievement of IEP goals. Develop and implement annual IEP plans, including present levels of performance, instructional goals, objectives, services, and supports. Schedule and participate in IEP meetings and collect input from required stakeholders. Coordinate the delivery of special education services outlined in each student's IEP. Create a positive learning environment with emphasis on individualized instruction using appropriate resources and technology. Serve as the primary contact for parents regarding assigned students. Work cooperatively with school staff, child study team members, and other stakeholders to develop instructional goals and strategies. Comply with School Board policies and all applicable state and federal rules and regulations. Complete all required school, district, and state reporting. Perform other duties as assigned. Physical Requirements Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer and other office equipment, and reach with hands and arms. Must occasionally lift, move, and/or support up to 50 pounds and/or up to adult-size body weight with a two-to-three-person lift. This position may require some degree of physical interaction with students who have difficulty controlling physical behavior.
