Job Description

Help children with developmental disabilities achieve their greatest potential. Special Education Teacher - Elementary & Middle School Students Come for a job, stay for the mission. We're looking for a full-time Special Education Classroom Teacher to join our team in Ridgely, MD . This is an exempt position following a 223-day school calendar , Monday through Friday. As a teacher at Benedictine, you'll lead a classroom of middle and high school students with developmental disabilities, providing individualized instruction in academics, life skills, and social-emotional development. You'll be supported by dedicated Education Assistants and collaborate daily with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals. Salary Range:
$61,000 - $107,000 , based on education and experience + Key Responsibilities Deliver individualized instruction aligned with each student's IEP Teach academic, vocational, and functional life skills appropriate to developmental level Lead and supervise Education Assistants in the classroom Maintain detailed lesson plans, classroom schedules, and instructional protocols Monitor and support student behavior using individualized plans Track and evaluate student progress toward IEP goals Maintain compliance with all documentation and confidentiality requirements Participate in IEP meetings, staff trainings, family conferences, and school events Administer state-mandated testing and submit timely reporting + Additional Responsibilities Assist students with feeding and toileting as needed Support transportation when required Participate in evaluations and coaching of classroom staff Maintain MSDE certification standards and complete mandatory trainings Support inspections or reviews from regulatory agencies Other duties as assigned + Qualifications Must have or be eligible for a Maryland Educator License in Special Education Bachelor's degree required Experience with special education students in elementary and/or middle school settings is highly preferred Must be at least 21 years old Must pass drug screening, CPS background check, and CJIS fingerprinting Must be eligible to work in the United States Valid driver's license and clean driving record (if driving is required) Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills Strong commitment to student advocacy and the Benedictine mission + Physical Requirements Able to lift or push up to 50 lbs Able to walk or stand for extended periods Full range of motion in arms, legs, hands, and fingers Capable of implementing physical interventions when needed (per Safety Care training) Able to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel Must be able to speak, hear, and see clearly + Other Benefits Medical insurance Dental insurance Vision insurance Life insurance Long term and short term disability, accident, and critical illness benefits Flexible spending accounts; dependent care and health care 403(b) match Paid time off; 12 holidays (including your birthday) plus a generous amount of sick and personal hours Tuition reimbursement Mileage reimbursement Extra pay for using your personally owned vehicle, if eligible Cell phone reimbursement, if eligible Career advancement opportunities Paid training Year round events including appreciation weeks (for Teachers, DSPs, Administration, etc.), turkey give-away, Christmas party, milestone anniversary celebrations, staff appreciation night, and much more!
