Job Description

About us Harvest Outreach Center, Inc. Beacon Academy Beacon Academy seeks a Special Education Teacher for the 2022-2023 school year for a private day school for students with disabilities. Applicant must hold or be eligible for a Virginia Teaching License with an endorsement in Special Education; individuals with or eligible for a Provisional License through the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) will be considered. Knowledge of children with disabilities and the implication for instruction is required. Knowledge of resources and techniques needed to integrate curriculum is required. Essential duties include but are not limited to: Complies with policies and laws related to special education classroom operations. Maintains confidentiality of the students in their care. Instruct students in academic subjects using a variety of techniques. Teach socially accepted behavior, as determined by the student's IEP. Modify the general education curriculum as appropriate to meet the student's needs. Select appropriate diagnostic tools, be familiar with procedures and be able to interpret results for parents and other professionals. Establish rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining a positive learning environment. Meet with parents to discuss their children's progress and determine priorities for their children and their individual needs. Collaborate with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers and other professionals to develop IEPs designed to promote students' educational, physical and social/emotional development. Establish clear objectives and lessons. Maintain accurate and complete student records. Develop plans for communication, follow up and monitoring of students and their progress. Serve as a member of a multi-disciplinary team. Continued professional development in order to stay up to date in the development of education for students with disabilities. Perform other duties as assigned by the administrator. •Please list your Virginia teachers license number, expiration date, and any endorsements on your resume; or list your eligibility status if you have not received your license yet.
