Category Schools - Special Education Teacher Job Type Contract Make a meaningful impact as a Special Education Teacher supporting students for the 2026/2027 school year. This contract opportunity places you in a dynamic learning environment, working with individuals who benefit from your patience, expertise, and dedication to creating inclusive, supportive classroom experiences.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
Bachelor's degree with an endorsement in Autism Spectrum Disorder or another area of special education (or willingness to enroll in classes to obtain the endorsement). Valid Michigan Teacher Certificate. Proven ability to remain composed and effective when managing aggressive behaviors, both physically and emotionally. Skilled in resolving conflicts productively and creating a positive, collaborative atmosphere. Flexible with qualifications if board-approved alternatives are met.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver individualized instruction and supports—adapting teaching methods and interventions to meet a range of special education needs. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including general education staff and specialists, to create and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs). Monitor and document progress closely, communicating effectively with students, families, and relevant stakeholders. Foster an inclusive classroom where each student's abilities are honored and nurtured. Respond proactively and constructively to behavioral challenges, employing evidence-based de-escalation and support strategies. Remain current with best practices through ongoing professional development and compliance with state and district guidelines.
