Job Description

Job Summary Provide remedial services to students with speech, language, voice, swallowing, fluency, or hearing difficulties. Improve their methods of expressive / receptive communication; and eventually attain appropriate speech or language skills. The speech and language therapist will also implement strategies and interventions to support students in improving their expressive / receptive communication. Position is 7.5 hours/day, 188 days/year. Responsibilities 1. Provide Level I, II, and III screening for students who may have speech / language difficulties: Level I
  • mass screening of an entire group of children Level II
  • screening due to a referral by a parent, teacher, or other professional Level III
  • direct interaction of the speech therapist with students as part of the response to intervention and instruction process or special education evaluation process 2.
Participate in school based screening process 3. Facilitate and participate in the evaluation report process for all students who receive speech and language as a related service 4. Assume role as chairperson of the evaluation / reevaluation process for student who have a speech and language disability as sole reason for special education 5. Develop Individualized Education Plan (IEP) for all students identified as having speech and language disabilities 6. Communicate with special education teachers regarding re-evaluation and IEP needs for students with speech / language impairments 7. Provide a program of therapy in individual, small group, or classroom sessions 8. Communicate student progress to parents, teachers, and IEP team members 9. Cooperate with professional agencies 10. Prepare therapy materials, diagnostic reports, and therapy plans 11. Maintain comprehensive records and updated class lists 12. Inform the community of program availability and goals. Present information to parent groups, PTA, teacher groups / school administrators, and professional organizations 13. Perform classroom observations and visitations 14. Attend faculty and staff meetings 15. Refer, evaluate and implement assistive technology goals when appropriate 16. Attend building level team meetings as necessary to offer input on student interventions / identifications 17. Any other duties assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee Qualifications Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology Valid PA certificate Clinical Competency Certificate preferred Demonstrates proficiency using technology for computer assisted management and intervention programs with students Such alternatives to the above list as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
