SUMMARY:
The Speech/Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) supports the delivery of speech and language services to students with communication disorders under the direct supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist. The SLPA assists in implementing IEP goals, providing therapeutic activities, collecting data, and supporting students' communication needs in accordance with IDEA, Arkansas Department of Education (ADE) regulations, and district policies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Implement speech-language intervention activities as outlined in students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) under the direction of the supervising SLP. Provide individual and small-group therapy sessions focusing on articulation, language, fluency, voice, and pragmatic communication skills. Support students in classroom and educational settings to generalize communication skills. Collect and maintain accurate data on student performance and progress toward IEP goals. Assist the supervising SLP with preparation of therapy materials and progress reports. Maintain confidentiality of student records in compliance with FERPA and district policies. Communicate regularly with the supervising SLP regarding student progress, concerns, and service delivery needs. Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and related service providers to support student outcomes. Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and training as assigned. Follow all Arkansas licensure requirements, ADE special education rules, and district procedures. Work only within the scope of practice defined for SLPAs and under appropriate supervision. Use ethical and professional judgment in all interactions with students, families, and staff.
REQUIREMENTS
Associate's degree or bachelor's degree in Speech-Language Pathology, Communication Disorders, or a related field. Current Arkansas SLPA licensure or registration (or eligibility to obtain). Ability to work under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist. Knowledge of special education processes and IDEA requirements Previous experience working with children in a school or clinical setting. (Preferred) Experience supporting students with diverse needs, including students with disabilities, English learners, or behavioral challenges (Preferred) Successful completion of pre-employment background checks. Appropriate personal and professional conduct at all times around students, other staff members and the general public.
