Sports Field Maintenance Worker

Under supervision, performs care and maintenance of sport fields and other landscaped areas, assist with set up for games, and routine maintenance. This position is designed to be year-round with fluctuating hours each week depending on the frequency of field usage. For example, during cold winter months from November to February there will be little to no field maintenance needed. Applicants should be prepared to work in the evenings with little to no supervision during work times. Work will be closely inspected to ensure standards are regularly met. The following duties and responsibilities are not all inclusive. Other duties may be assigned. Responsible for the basic maintenance, preparation, layout, painting and lining of softball, baseball and soccer fields. Performs routine landscaping and turf maintenance: water, mow, trim, and rake. Clean grounds, public parking lots and other installations of leaves, weeds and litter. Maintain and clean ball field restrooms. Maintain, trim, and remove trees, bushes and shrubs as needed. Assists in the repair of water line breaks, cuts and lays sod, cleans sprinkler lines, valves and heads. Assist in the inspection, cleaning and repairing of field structures and facilities. Assist in the removal of debris resulting from storms. Assist in performing minor repairs to motorized equipment, such as lubrication, oil changes and cleaning. Report incidents of vandalism. Observes all common safety standards. Follows safety rules and regulations and report violations of rules and regulations. Ability to operate all equipment needed for grounds maintenance: mower, edger, blower, tractor, loader, vehicle, and hand and power tools. Responds orally to informal grievances and relays information to the supervisor. Aid in the set-up and removal of equipment for special events. Respond to emergencies, as needed. Ability to work early mornings, nights, weekends and on-call, if needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

Basic knowledge and ability to learn: Demonstrate basic horticulture/gardening practices. Knowledge of methods, techniques and tools used in the construction maintenance of parks, landscaping areas and related facilities. Understand watering requirements for lawns, trees and plants and various types of soil. Display operation of a wide variety of equipment and tools used in parks maintenance, repair and construction in a safe and effective manner. Demonstrate understanding of pertinent federal and state laws, codes and regulations; City ordinances, rules, policies and procedures; Departmental rules, policies and procedures. Ability to work effectively with other staff and public. Strong oral and written communication skills.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

High school diploma or equivalent, preferred. Valid Colorado Class "R" Driver's License at time of application.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT

One-year experience in park maintenance or related field, preferred.
