Collinsville, IL Your Role:
Tetra Tech is seeking a motivated and entrepreneurial Senior Environmental Compliance Lead to help re-establish and grow our environmental compliance services in the Midwest. This is a hands-on opportunity for an experienced professional who enjoys both technical delivery and client development and wants to play a key role in expanding a growing service line within an established office. The ideal candidate will bring strong environmental compliance expertise, the ability to work independently, and the confidence to build relationships with industrial, manufacturing, and commercial clients. This role will be supported by an established office, existing local client relationships, multidisciplinary teammates, and broader firm resources. Business Development and Client Growth
  • Help grow environmental compliance services by developing new client relationships and expanding work within existing accounts.
  • Build trust with clients through responsive, practical advisory support and high-quality service delivery.
  • Collaborate with office leadership and related technical teams to identify cross-selling opportunities and introduce environmental services to current clients.
  • Support the development of a sustainable environmental compliance practice in the Midwest. Technical Delivery & Program Management
  • Lead and support environmental compliance projects in areas such as air quality, water/wastewater, stormwater, waste management/RCRA, and EHS compliance.
  • Interpret and apply federal, state, and local environmental regulations.
  • Prepare permits, compliance reports, submittals, and related technical deliverables.
  • Manage multiple client engagements while balancing technical work, client communication, and business development responsibilities.
  • Support inspections, audits, regulatory interactions, and development of practical tools, templates, and processes that improve efficiency and consistency. Collaboration & Practice Growth
  • Work closely with office leadership and technical staff to strengthen and grow environmental service offerings.
  • Contribute to a collaborative, client-focused culture.
  • Mentor junior staff as the practice expands and help build internal capability over time.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in environmental compliance, permitting, regulatory support, or project management, or equivalent experience demonstrating strong technical leadership, client relationship development, and independent project execution.
  • Experience in one or more core environmental compliance areas, such as air quality, water/wastewater or stormwater, waste management/RCRA, or EHS compliance and auditing.
  • Strong working knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and client-facing skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance technical delivery with business development in a professional services environment.
  • Experience developing new client relationships or expanding work within existing accounts. Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional certifications such as PE, CHMM, CEP, CIH, or CSP; PMP is a plus.
  • Experience supporting industrial, manufacturing, energy, or commercial clients.
  • Familiarity with building processes, templates, or scalable tools to support practice growth.
  • Existing regional network or established client relationships.
This position requires the candidate to be a U.S. Citizen due to the projects they will be working on.

Language & Communication Skills:
  • Fluency in English required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to lead meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and internal teams.
  • Proven ability to prepare high-quality deliverables, including proposals, plans, technical reports, studies, and regulatory submittals.
Other Skills:
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, with strong Excel skills for data analysis, compliance tracking, reporting, and data visualization.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, regulatory-ready documents and present findings to clients and leadership.
  • Strong organizational and coordination skills to manage multiple deadlines, stakeholders, and deliverables in a fast-paced consulting environment.
