Job Title:
Senior Facilities Technician Job Description The Senior Facilities Technician will set up, maintain, and repair facility equipment and systems, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the physical plant. This role focuses on preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, and supporting facility operations in a highly technical environment. The technician will work independently and as a resource for less experienced team members, while following strict safety, compliance, and documentation standards. Responsibilities Set up, maintain, and repair equipment and systems within the facility in your area of expertise. Follow the maintenance schedule to complete regular and preventive maintenance work assignments on time. Respond to service calls, perform repairs, and support equipment installations as directed. Perform troubleshooting and diagnostic evaluations on physical plant systems and equipment to identify and resolve issues. Conduct routine inspections on building systems and equipment to ensure proper operation and compliance. Maintain an organized inventory of parts, materials, and tools, and keep assigned storage areas clean and orderly. Follow company and departmental policies, procedures, and guidelines in all daily work routines and assignments. Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures and applicable regulations. Complete required paperwork accurately for the purchase, stocking, and use of materials, parts, and components needed to close work orders. Verify that work orders contain complete, appropriate, and accurate information before submitting them as completed. Provide guidance and informal leadership to less experienced employees, sharing technical knowledge and best practices. Recommend cost-saving strategies and techniques that maintain quality and protect individual safety. Support and communicate the organization's mission, values, and culture through daily interactions and work practices. Perform other related tasks or special assignments as needed to support facility operations. Essential Skills High school diploma or trade school diploma. Approximately 7+ years of experience in facilities maintenance for a company or large building. Hands-on HVAC experience, including maintenance and repair. Construction knowledge applicable to facility and building systems. Working knowledge of electrical systems and basic electrical repair. Working knowledge of plumbing systems and basic plumbing repair. Solid working knowledge of building codes relevant to facility operations. Understanding of OSHA requirements and safe working techniques and procedures. Ability to perform preventive maintenance on facility and building systems. Experience with facilities, building maintenance, and facility maintenance operations. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to follow maintenance schedules, work orders, and documentation processes accurately. Additional Skills & Qualifications Trade school training in a facilities-related discipline is preferred. Licensure in a specific specialty (such as HVAC, electrical, or plumbing) is preferred. Experience working as a maintenance technician in a complex or technical facility environment. Ability to organize and maintain parts, tools, and storage areas efficiently. Experience recommending and implementing cost-saving maintenance strategies. Comfort working both independently and as a technical resource for less experienced team members. Why Work Here? Work Environment This role is based in an R D facility that supports advanced technologies across defense and commercial applications. You will work primarily on a first-shift schedule, Monday through Friday, with a 9/80 work arrangement: 7:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Fridays, with every other Friday off. The environment includes building systems such as HVAC, electrical, and plumbing, as well as other facility infrastructure typical of a research and development setting. Work involves hands-on maintenance, inspections, and repairs in mechanical rooms, plant areas, and general facility spaces, following strict safety procedures and applicable codes. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cypress, CA. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $37.00/hr.
