JOB SUMMARY
The Staff Accountant is responsible for supporting the companys financial operations by maintaining accurate general ledger records, assisting with financial reporting, and ensuring timely completion of accounting processes and compliance requirements. This role works closely with the Head of Finance to support monthly and year-end close process, prepare financial reports, file taxes, and track key company assets. To be successful in this position, the individual must be detail-oriented, organized, and able to manage deadlines while maintaining accuracy in a fast-paced, growing environment.
Accountabilities:
General Ledger & Financial Reporting Reconciles cash and other general ledger accounts Prepares and posts journal entries for monthly close Assists with year-end close activities Prepares monthly financial statements, including departmental or segment reporting Tracks and maintains records of company assets, including cylinders, vehicles, and other equipment Taxes & Compliance Prepares and files monthly sales tax reports Prepares and files quarterly local tax returns Supports additional tax reporting as required Tracks company vehicles and assists with vehicle and fuel tax reporting Assists with industry-specific compliance reporting, including medical gas reporting Misc. Prepares reports as needed to support accounting, finance, and operational needs Reviews employee expense reports for accuracy and policy compliance Processes and prints checks as required Responds to inquiries from internal teams and external partners in a timely and professional manner Provides support to Accounts Payable as needed Performs other accounting-related duties as assigned
Required Skills/Abilities:
Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy Ability to manage deadlines and prioritize work in a fast-paced environment Solid understanding of general ledger accounting and reconciliations Strong organizational and problem-solving skills Ability to take ownership of responsibilities and follow through independently Effective communication skills with both internal teams and external contacts Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and accounting/ERP systems
Education and Experience :
Degree in Accounting or related field, or equivalent experience 13 years of accounting or related experience preferred Experience with tax filings or compliance reporting preferred Experience in distribution, logistics, or industrial environments is a plus
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times Must be able to access and navigate various departments within the organization
