Construction Staff Accountant - Project & Job Cost Accounting About J.E. Richards J.E. Richards, Inc. is a leading electrical contractor serving commercial, industrial, data center, utility, and service markets across the Mid-Atlantic. As we continue to grow, we're investing in strengthening our project accounting function to ensure clean financial data, disciplined job cost controls, and accurate reporting that supports field operations and executive leadership. Why This Role Exists This role supports the Controller and Project Management teams by owning project-level accounting responsibilities including job costing, WIP reporting, and union-related financial reporting. This allows senior finance leadership to focus on higher-value analysis, forecasting, and CFO-facing initiatives. This is not a payroll or AP/AR role. Payroll is handled by a dedicated team. This position is focused on construction project accounting. Position Overview The Construction Staff Accountant plays a key role in maintaining the financial integrity of active electrical construction projects. You will partner closely with Project Managers and Accounting leadership to track cost-to-complete, analyze job performance, support union-related financial reporting, and ensure leadership has accurate, timely data to drive decisions. This role is ideal for someone with construction accounting experience who wants exposure to complex projects, job cost ownership, and growth beyond transactional accounting. What You'll Do Project & Job Cost Accounting Maintain accurate job cost accounting and cost code structures across active projects Prepare and support WIP schedules, cost-to-complete updates, and margin analysis Partner with Project Managers to review job performance, cost variances, and forecasts Support month-end close activities related to project accounting Union & Compliance Support Support union-related financial reporting tied to job cost, labor burden, and fringe allocations Assist with union, financial, and insurance audits by providing accurate job cost documentation Accounting & Financial Support Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and adjustments related to project activity Assist with balance sheet reconciliations and ensure subledgers align with the general ledger Support intercompany accounting and coordination with affiliated entities Systems & Process Improvement Utilize Vista by Viewpoint or similar construction ERP systems to maintain accurate project financials Identify opportunities to improve job cost accuracy, reporting workflows, and data visibility AP/AR exposure is limited to activities that directly impact job cost accuracy. This role does not process payroll.
