JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE
: STEAM Teacher - Visual Arts
SUPERVISES
: Not Applicable
JOB GOAL
: To develop scholarly interest in and the ability for creative expression in visual terms, using skills and techniques of artistic expression, including digital art, and to discover and develop the talents of scholars in the field of art.
QUALIFICATIONS
: Bachelor's Degree or higher in PK-12 job-related field, preferably in the arts Current Alabama Teaching Certificate or eligibility to apply Three or more years of successful classroom teaching experience A genuine interest in STEAM - visual arts program content Demonstrates aptitude or competence for assigned duties/responsibilities Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board might find appropriate and acceptable

To be determined commensurate with local salary matrix, credentials, and experience.
PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach knowledge and skills in art, including drawing, painting, lettering, and art history, Provide instruction by which students develop aesthetic concepts and appreciation and the ability to make qualitative judgments about art Demonstrate techniques in activities such as drawing and painting Knows and can apply elements of design and modern principles of art Knows the fundamentals and different approaches to drawing media technique Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities Instruct students in proper care and use of tools and equipment Organize storage areas and control the use of materials, equipment, and tools to prevent loss or abuse, and minimize the time required for distribution and collection Evaluate each student's performance and growth in knowledge and aesthetic understandings, and Communicate with parents and other pertinent staff about scholar progress Plan and present art displays and exhibitions designed to exhibit students' work for the school and the community Maintain professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the school/system and/or in self-selected professional growth activities Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs, such as after-school art club
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to use computers well, and be well versed in the Google Suite for Education tools. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. One should be outgoing, able to work well with others, and comfortable in social situations where others in the group may or may not be familiar. Communication skills are a necessity. Should be comfortable supervising others and being a liaison between the teachers in the school buildings and the district administration.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
187 days (9-month). Other contract terms and salary to be established by the Board.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provision of the Board's Policy on Evaluation of Administrators.
