POSITION SUMMARY:
The Student & Family Support Specialist serves as the liaison between school, families, community partners, and the school-based healthcare center to remove barriers to attendance, engagement, and student success. This role supports culturally and linguistically diverse populations, and newcomer families, as well as students experiencing homelessness, foster care placement, and economic hardship. The specialist provides proactive family outreach, attendance intervention, healthcare coordination, and community resource connections to strengthen student outcomes and school engagement.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma/GED. Three years of experience in a related field. Experience and knowledge with computers and fundamental technology. Experience working with a diverse group of people. Embodies the core values of the district; relational, purposeful, reflective, resourceful, courageous and accountable. Must be able to satisfactorily perform each essential function of the position. Must be able to provide a criminal background check with results that adhere to Bulloch County Board of Education Policy GAK(1).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
College degree. Experience serving as an advocate for children and parents. Knowledge of family engagement research and literature. Experience with developing collaborative partners and building relationships with constituents in the community. Experience working in Title I schools. Understanding of student achievement data.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Builds strong, trusting relationships with families from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Provides proactive outreach to families regarding attendance concerns and engagement barriers. Supports families in understanding school expectations, systems, and available resources. Serves as the primary school liaison for the school-based healthcare center, helping coordinate communication, student access, scheduling support, and family engagement related to healthcare services. Ensures students are registered to receive clinic services and families are informed of procedures and follow-up care. Connects families to community agencies and wraparound services that support attendance and well-being. Serves as a liaison between the school, families, foster care agencies, the Georgia Division of Family & Children Services, homeless support services, and community outreach organizations to help remove barriers impacting student attendance, wellness, engagement, and academic success. Supports students and families experiencing homelessness, foster care placement, economic hardship, or crisis situations by connecting them with wraparound services, community resources, school supports, and educational stability opportunities in accordance with the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. Coordinates family workshops, outreach events, and resource supports. Collaborates with school leadership, counselors, teachers, and support staff to address student needs. Develops and maintains partnerships with local businesses, faith-based organizations, nonprofits, and community agencies that support the school's efforts to provide resources, services, incentives, and opportunities that positively impact students, families, and staff at Langston Chapel Elementary School. Maintains accurate documentation of family outreach, attendance interventions, clinic coordination, and referrals. Creates opportunities for parents with limited English proficiency or other barriers to participate in school initiatives. Supports school improvement goals related to climate, culture, attendance, and student success. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Attendance and Dependability:
Ability to report to work at the scheduled time and to seldom be absent from work. Demonstrate prompt and regular work attendance. Process appropriate paperwork to authorize absences in accordance with school system procedures. Ability to complete work in a timely, accurate manner and to be conscientious about work performance.

Performance will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent or designated supervisor in accordance with Policy GBI - Evaluation of Personnel.
